With the AFS code I purchased two posters: Vivre Sa Vie and Pierrot Le Fou and a black Criterion shirt--- all for $50.

Not a bad deal.

There's a review/comparison for "Summer Hours" up at DVDBeaver now for those that are interested.

You wouldn't be spending $500 at once. Criterion doesn't charge you until they ship.

That said, you should jump on the OOP DVD titles if you are interested. They deducted an extra $5 from their already discounted price. With the 25% off codes the DVDs are very reasonable. Considering that it's been stated that the StudioCanal titles will go OOP at the end of March, it's time to act now.

Gotta give credit where credit is due. Criterion's customer service has been much improved as of late. It used to take weeks for them to respond to phone calls and e-mails. They mailed my replacement cases several days ago and two of the nine cases were damaged (almost certainly by UPS). Criterion already e-mailed me back today that new cases to replace the damaged ones are already sent priority mail.

Then again maybe I'm just getting special treatment since I've ordered over $300 worth of films from them in the last 3 weeks.

I would be paying it all at once, because I still need to fill in the back catalog of released titles on Blu-ray.

Regarding the DVDs, I've sort of stopped buying them altogether. I guess I'm being sort of an elitist, but I just can't bring myself to invest in SD anymore. I do still have quite a few Criterions on DVD, and will replace them as they become available on Blu-ray. Otherwise I would definitely pick up some of the discounted titles.

Not Blu-Ray Related, but I figured I'd take a shot here just for the hell of it(I know no one will take me up on it lol):

If anyone has the DVD set of the Ingmar Bergman Faith Trilogy, and they aren't too attached to "Winter Light", I'd be very interested in purchasing that film from them.

Like I said, I don't expect anyone to be interested(if you bought the Trilogy, it's probably because you want all three in your collection), but I don't know where else to look.

So yeah, if anyone wants to sell it, PM me.

The 'CINE' code doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. Has anyone else tried it within the past hour or so?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and gotta say how much I love this thread. It's a great resource to find information on Criterion and movies in general. Anyways I have a question about The Third Man. I just rented it from Netflix and thought it was incredible. I really want to pick it up, but I know it's out of print so I looked to see where I can get it second hand and for how much.

I was really surprised to see that Best Buy is actually still selling it for $32.99, which is pretty good considering it's out of print. My question is, is this for sure the actual Criterion release? I'm not gonna get some kind of weird import or something am I? I NEVER order from Best Buy so I don't know how reliable they are. Any help would be appreciated, or if anyone knows a better route to take to purchase this film that would be great too. Thanks

Think it's the only release. Whether Best Buy has it in reality, only you will find out for sure.

Your other option is to check your local Borders stores (not their website, it's not listed any more); some of them could still have a copy.

Otherwise it's amazon stores or ebay or the like.

It's not available for shipping and it's only up there because there may be a few left out in circulation at the actual brick and mortar locations. You'll have a hard time finding The Third Man at this price now, and you'll most likely have to go through eBay or some other sort of reseller.

Good luck!

Thanks, yea I figured it was something like that, where they didn't even have it. If something's too good to be true... Guess I'll have to pay a little more than, oh well.

I do have another question. This title was released in a digipack, so I'm sure if I got it, it would be in that form. I know the topic of replacement cases is despised on here, so I'm sorry for asking if this has already been discussed at length, but is Criterion offering a replacement case for this title still?

The Third Man is one of the few original titles that you'll probably find in a keepcase as most of the digipaks sold out when they announced the title going out of print.

Edit: If you do receive the digipak, you can still order the replacement case from Criterion. Check the first post of this thread for more details.
