I guess you have to remember how Malick seems to work since he shot "Days Of Heaven." He seems to go in with a general idea for a film, but then as it goes on he just decides to shoot miles and miles of footage and then try to piece together something coherent in the editing room.

"Days Of Heaven" was his first example of this. I don't think the same applied to "Badlands." "Days Of Heaven" had much more dialogue in the beginning from what we can read about the film but then it was all cut out and Malick decided to add the girl's voice-over narration later to try and fill in the gaps.

While I feel that Sissy Spaceck's voice-over narration was much more well executed in "Badlands," Linda Manz's voice-over narration serves "Days Of Heaven" well enough, I think. The accent is a bit tough to take in at first, I agree, but if you can just listen to the words then I think it's okay.

You're thinking of the wrong version of "The Four Feathers," Chad.

I can find, at least, five films with the title "The Four Feathers" online, although they're all based off of the novel of the same name.

Someone feel free to correct me, but I'm thinking Criterion is working on the 1939 UK release of "The Four Feathers."

I have a feeling we are going to get alot of surprise titles in the next 2 announcements, with only 6 titles confirmed for this year, and 4 of those months away.

For people who wants confirmed and rumor titles:

http://www.criterionforum.org/forum/...c.php?f=2&t=23

Also, I don't know if anyone on here knows what I am talking about but I heard New Yorker is back. What does that mean for Godard's Weekend? I haven't heard anything from Criterion ever since it was rumored to be on the slate this year.

Yeah, I have no idea what's holding "Cronos" up. From all the early interviews with del Toro, it seemed like he was actively involved in helping to get it ready. I'm sure he's up to his neck in Hobbit mess, though, as well.

It's the 1939 version. Zoltan Korda's film. There are a couple of silent ones that I have been interested in seeing though.

I've never purchased or seen any of the old New Yorker discs, CG. Do you happen to own any of them? Any idea about the quality of the transfers?

That's a relief. Didn't realize the recent version was a remake.

I don't actually. I was going to buy Godard's Weekend last spring for over $50 but heard about Criterion rumored to release it in 2010. I heard the transfer of it is crap, so I was going to waste my money on it, but I really love to own it. I hope Criterion does release it on dvd or blu.

Here is the review for New Yorker's disc of Weekend to give you a look of New Yorkers transfers:http://www.dvdbeaver.com/FILM/DVDReviews10/weekend.htm

More noticeable with b&w films, as color tends to hide the discoloration. (Sony has a warranty extension for (some of) these sets that expires end of June, you may want to watch some other b&w films to see if this tint is present on them (in the same upper right corner location), when background (e.g., sky) is light gray or white).
Thanks (and you are correct on the display). I didn't notice it while watching Yojimbo or Sanjuro, but I'll throw in a few more B&W titles and see if I notice anything.

It's cool, I don't think we will be seeing Kate Hudson in the Collection any time soon.

Almost Famous would be the only way she'd make it in, but I don't see DreamWorks licensing it out.

Only one IFC in my predictions, and these are all titles heavily rumored to be released soon, although Criterion usually has a surprise title every month.
The "Rashomon" restored version, I really want to see. They really did a lot of painstaking work on it (frame by frame).

"Red Shoes" will be awesome...anything Michael Powell on Blu-ray I look forward to.

Speaking of Michael Powell and for those who are auteur-based fans (who are not opposed to buying box sets that are not BD), DeepDiscount just began their 64% off sale today on Columbia/MGM including the Frank Capra, Sam Fuller, Michael Powell, Stanley Kramer, etc. box sets. Great price for cinema fans!

kndy so I don't post it again, if you can, try to read my post in the Silent film thread I just made about Deepdiscount if you have time. Thanks. It's a question.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of the Chaplin films announced in May for August releases. Or perhaps one or two of the rumored MGM titles, like Paths of Glory or Night of the Hunter.

Could, I just don't know how long Criterion actually had the rights and if they are going to be on blu, it may take longer like December.

Also Paths of Glory and Night of the Hunter would be good too, just don't know how long they had them. If anyone knows, that would help to kind of know.

I know good things have been said of it, but I'm much too fond of the version with Harvey Keitel in it to take a chance just yet. I'll give it a shot for the sake of Herzog, though.
