Yeah, I'm aware, my comment about the $28 was directed exclusively at Hunger.

I have not watched alot of Godard's films, but I think that Pierrot Le Fou (Pierrot the Crazy) would be his lesser and less original work, it convults a simple story that is basically a french Bonnie and Clyde (I would not be surprised if the story inspired this) and scenes pace rather inorganically. I though it was a rushed and incomplete movie and pulling claims such as the lack of a screenplay and an experimental film, although that might be the point, because it goes nowhere and just leads the audience without much of an idea. Just a couple of convicts that are sick of their lives, just put up some bullshit to somehow make it stick.

I'm more of a fan of Fellini though .

So we're going to see Jewel on a Criterion Blu-Ray film? Seems weird. Not that I'm complaining.

Pierrot Le Fou came before Bonnie and Clyde and was basically improvised.

Which is funny because Godard was asked to direct the Warren Beatty film. But what you just said really doesn't mean anything due to Bonnie and Clyde was real people, so the "story" of them was out there, just not the movie. Now IMO is Pierrot le fou based off of them? Doesn't matter, because that isn't what Godard wants the movie to be about. Also the movie is based off of a novel called Obsession by Lionel White. But the film is mainly about Godard's use of postmodernism.

Postmodernism! Pop culture! Vietnam war! Socialism! I'm not a fan of Godard for nothing.

He was the most inventive director of the era, and I think it's his most daring film, all things considered. I also enjoy Bande a Part, which I think is his most playful film, and Alphaville. I'm really not too fond of Breathless or Contempt (gasp).

His most Daring? Prob out of those you listed, yes. But everything 1969-on has been more daring. Even Weekend, La Chinoise and Les Carabiniers from that era are more "daring".

Godard is the inventive director still. Some could say his films 1969-on is what sets his name at the top. Criterion needs to get the ball rolling on Histoire(s) du cinéma.

Not your fault. Heck I haven't seen enough of his later work. No way to. You can see some on Youtube, but thats it. Someone needs to grow a pair and release these films. I wonder why Criterion don't? Is it because they are shot on video? Come on Criterion.

Went to Best Buy Today and Picked up Vivre Sa Vie and Summer Hours. Also picked up 8 1/2 because many people in the thread suggested it.

I'm wondering when we'll have another Criterion sale @ Barnes & Noble? In July like last year, maybe? Anyways, I think I should start saving some money. Haven't bought any new Criterions since the sale in November.

I am getting Battleship Potemkin. I have a very bad DVD copy and I am hoping this Blu-ray release will be a good improvement. Eisenstein is one of my favorite director. I hope Criterion release Alexander Nevsky & Ivan The Terrible on Blu-ray and his other movies as well.

A lot of his later work are not available on video unfortunately. But I would hope that Criterion may have an Eclipse series for Godard hopefully in the near future.

That would be cool, but Histoire(s) du cinéma would need a spine# and a boxset.

I just completed Chungking Express.

I had never seen this movie before this even if I actualy some of the other movies made by Wong Kar-wai (specialy In The Mood For Love).

Very good movie bur I was more interested in the second story then the first and I was also very happy it was a bit longer then the first part. I happen to be a big fan of Tony Leung and so that help's a lot. I felt the second story much more interesting then the first one. Like a lot of other movies by Wong Kar-wai I had a bit of a hard time figuring out what was happening in the now and what was flashbacks or memories He can confuse me at time. His stories are however always interesting. The way he make's his movies it feel's to me at least that they are like some sort of dreams. It's almost as if the characters are just dreaming what is happening not actualy living it.

It's funny I did not plan this but I saw two Wong Kar-wai movies this weekend since I also saw Ashes Of Time.
