Not to mention the CC Blu-ray isn't out yet and the discrepancy is so slight that 99% of people (CC fanatics) wouldn't notice a difference between the two Blu-ray unless they were scrutinizing screenshots.
They weren't entirely convinced because Kevin from Eureka (at least I believe it was Kevin?) said that the master they received matched the print too. It was a civilized conversation, especially for CriterionForum.org. I've seen a lot worse when they were talking about The Magnificent Ambersons, or Touch of Evil.

Do you recall the price sticker on RIDE WITH THE DEVIL as Best Buy? Was it a 29.99 price range? Like Vivre Sa Vie, and Summer Hours?

I might check a few area locations to see if they put out stock yet for RIDE WITH DEVIL, sometimes they are out early other times they are not. Just depends.

I hear ya. RIDE WITH THE DEVIL is only the second disc my local BB has put out early. The other was CHE and the clerk busted me on the release date and took it back. Bastid.

That and I'm sure tickets sold out a long time ago. It was not tickets for individual movies but just one ticket for the whole festival. And they were like $500 :[

She won't, because she won't be there. He is talking about the TCM festival, not the other festival with Karina.

Is anyone else that preordered with Criterion anxiously watching their emails for shipping confirmation? I know they usually ship a bit early, and since I was using the beloved AFS code, I bundled all of April's releases together, as I did with May and June, to get the best deal. I've been checking off and on today hoping to see it pop up. heh.

We were all revved to go but because of the press demand, a lot of us in media were put on stand-by or have received the "I'm sorry" e-mail. That would have been wonderful to catch tonight's poolside screening of "Neptune's Daughter". Friday's schedule is awesome with Bogdanovich and Leonard Maltin doing a panel. Belmondo on Friday night...

I was wanting to see "Metropolis" on Sunday night... Has anyone on here watched the restored version?

You'll find certain films discussed on the forum with some people who actually are verbal against the director or cinematography approved versions of Criterion releases. Bare in mind, a lot of people on the forum are hardcore enthusiasts, filmmakers/film students and they encourage constructive debate. Many also play the role of devil's advocate to start a discussion.

But for the most part, their debates are civilized and I recommend for those who are looking to purchase older to newer Criterion releases, to read their their discussions (the forum has a lot of good information), also recommend TheAuteurs.com as well.

First of all I never said anything to lead anyone to believe that the conversation was less than civil. I was commenting on the fact that someone of authority tried to explain why the CC M Blu looks the way it does and yet without anything to back up their opinion, people disagree simply because they think it should be minutely brighter.

This is nothing like The Last Emperor framing debate...

But if you have been following the forum, these answers by people are not surprising. Some of these people love to debate and have a desire for it. It can be anything from the film to the way you type and your use of verbage.

But for those worked in the remastering or in some way in the process, it does suck because you have someone on the inside willing to give you some answers but yet people are quick to disapprove of what one has to say. As one person keeps saying that the guy was part of the Criterion payroll.

But perhaps Chris can share on some memorable discussions on his website's forum. Not sure if he's still perusing the Criterion Blu-ray forums but reading through those messages, I often wonder what goes through his head when he reads those rebuttals.

Oh, and I apologize if you thought I was calling you out or anything. I was more or less trying to summarize things for people who have not been to the Criterion Forum otherwise as seen on forums who have posted CriterionForum links, people not familiar with the site get turned off. I actually enjoy reading the CriterionForum.org forums.

I have MANY Criterion releases, both DVD and Blu Ray. Gomorrah was my first (and I hope only in the future ) to not hold my interest. I just could not maintain an interest in it. Meanwhile, off the top of my head, their recent release of Mamet's HOMICIDE is breathtaking. I sent my old region 2 DVD to a buddy in Sweden. I hope Dennis is happy with Gomorrah as well.
