You'll eventually come around. Watch it again once it hits BR. The 16 or so Kurosawa/Mifune collaborations left some indelible treasures for all to enjoy. Seven Samurai is arguably the pinnacle.

I own Seven Samurai. Also, what am I "coming" around to? Joining the mass of people that can't have their own opinions?

How about a boxed set blu-ray for "Empire"?

Why would you assume that I meant that? Criterion has an awesome library...there's plenty to go around for years to come.

An 8-hour film of one shot of the Empire State Building?

I'd buy that, then I'd go see some friends and buy some stuff to watch it with.

I want the The Velvet Underground and Nico: A Symphony of Sound Jam session.

Oh and Chelsea Girls. But Paul Morrissey is mostly the director.

We need Criterion to release Chelsea Girls. Someone facebook it please. I don't use those stupid things.

I'd be interested in seeing it. The only available disc is an Italian DVD.

Anyone have any idea who owns the rights? I have a hunch it's a sticky situation....

I think The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts might own the rights. Criterion could prob get rights to release his films. The Chelsea Girls would be awesome.

July pre-orders already jumped from 27.99 to 35.99 on amazon.
Glad I got my order in before that happened.

I just figured I would share this but I bet most everyone already as it here

Chungking Express from Amazon.uk as a very low price (at least for me in Canadian money) compare to what it's like on Amazon.ca and it's region free.

2. Paris, Texas
3. Bigger Than Life
4. The Third Man
5. Chungking Express

It might be easier to list the ones that I own and have already viewed...

1.) Paris, Texas
2.) The Third Man
3.) For All Mankind
4.) Che
5.) Pierrot Le Fou

Remaining titles that I own and have viewed...

6.) Monterey Pop

My first Criterion "movie" was the DVD of "For All Mankind"...it also became my first Criterion BD purchase as well.

"The Third Man" and "Pierrot Le Fou" were both purchased for the obvious reason (thanks A LOT you guys! OOP indeed! ). The Third Man was a GREAT pickup anyway (I love it) and if you want to get "down and dirty" with real French Cinema, Pierrot Le Fou drops you right in and sugarcoats NOTHING! It's an interesting movie, which I will view a few more times, to give it a fair chance (I'm told there are other Godard titles that might be a good call for my next venture).

"Paris, Texas" was purchased because of the STRONG review here and the cast. I finally got the time to see it this past weekend and was FLOORED by it! What a COMPLETE movie...visually and aurally stunning and with a story that I could relate to. It struck a real emotional cord and has single-handedly added Wim Wenders to my short list of favorite directors (in good company with Stanley Kubrick and Ridley Scott).

Che was a Sunday morning marathon, as I wanted to see the second half right away. This was a Borders "online" purchase, with a 40% off coupon (a few weeks ago), so it came to about $33.00 with the tax and free shipping. It didn't move me the same way that Paris, Texas did, but a great movie nonetheless (Del Toro was AMAZING and a great supporting cast).

"Monterey Pop" was a Barnes and Noble 50% off coup (as well as The Third Man) and was the only other thing I was brave enough to try at the time .

Purchased...but NOT yet viewed...

"Wings of Desire"...this (and the second title below) was purchased purely by a combination of chance and good luck. I have gone to Borders (B & M) in the past and have never seemed to be able to find any Criterion titles, amongst the other overpriced BDs. There was another 40% off coupon deal going on, so I figured it was worth a look. As I had heard some very good feedback from a forum poster, I decided to take a chance (haven't opened it yet)...ironically, I knew it was Wim Wenders, but I bought it BEFORE viewing Paris, Texas. GLAD that I did...I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Since I had a second Borders coupon, I decided to head back (last day of sale) and see if they had put out any other BDs. After grabbing "Wings of Desire" the day before, I wasn't confident about finding anything. Another "gem" was waiting for me on the shelf. "The Seventh Seal" was the only Criterion sitting there and the 40% off was just a buck more than Amazon, so I took yet another chance ($23.99...the same for Wings of Desire). Only you folks can tell me more about this Bergman film, than I've already read in the review here).

So that's (8) titles so far (unless I missed one) and only one title so far (Pierrot) that I'll need to "grow on me".
