That prompted me to buy "Wings of Desire" when I saw it at Borders (with a 40% off coupon).

"Wings" was good, but I thought that "Paris" was better. Wim Wenders said that he didn't want to copy Paris, Texas and he certainly kept his word. It's a very different film. It has a "French Film" feel to it, but with a Wenders sensability about it.

Please let me know what you think about Paris, Texas and if you decide to purchase Wings of Desire.
I already had both films on DVD (along with some other Wim Wenders movies) and now own them as Criterion BDs.

I for one really like "Paris, Texas" but LOVE "Der Himmel über Berlin" (Wings of Desire). In fact it is in my all time top 5 (along with "Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo" [The Good, the Bad and ther Ugly], "Julien Donkey-Boy", "Herz aus Glas" [Heart of Glass] and "Nosferatu - Phantom der Nacht" [Nosferatu - The Vampyre])

I've seen all of Luis Buñuel's films, except "Cela s'appelle l'aurore", and my favorite movies of his are "El", and "Los Olvidados." From the Criterion collection, without a doubt "That Obscure Object of Desire" is my favorite one, followed by "Exterminating Angel". Other than a few of his run-of-the-mill melodramas he did for hire during his Mexican period, all of his films are excellent.

Default A sub $20 copy of M

For anyone that wants a copy of M, read the thread below and use the GSA coupon code at B&N. The site price is now at $23, with the coupons and free shipping it comes out to about $18 or so.

So I placed an order with Criterion to replace my 9 digipak Blu-ray cases at 2:40 PM EST on Monday and was immediately told that they would be on back order for I think 4-6 weeks. I got home today on Wednesday at 2:00 PM EST and all 9 cases were in a package outside my door haha. I still thought they were on back order.

Criterion rocks.

No, it's the cardboard ones that immediately appear to be slightly bent/crooked when I put them on my shelf.

and slide from top to bottom often resulting in inner packs falling out when unsuspecting friends would come over and grab titles off the shelf to look at.

Thanks for that M link, got it for $18.50

Its a shame that Criterion does not do the additional 20% off sales more often, I think they would get a lot more direct business.

I would gladly pay them $20-22 for a movie, the money goes directly to them plus it gets me closer to my $500 spent with them. And their shipping is by far the best (safe product wise). I have not bought from B&N in a long time, how is their shipping? Has anyone had a problem? Damaged cases?

Quick shipping, have not had one problem at all. Well, maybe one....during the 50% off sale, I ordered a ton and discovered nearly two months later that I didn't receive one of the items. I posted it about it on here before but called them two months later, explained that I ordered so many titles that I didn't receive one (Eclipse - Dusan) and they were great...(Granted, it helps that Thanksgiving, Chrismas and New Year's holidays happened) and because they were so busy during the holidays and a problem could have happened, they sent me the one I didn't get.

Nice thread!! I haven't read the 101 pages yet but I guess one day...

Criterion's shop would make me a great favor if customers could order from outside the US. I have always been a big fan of Criterion's releases (I also love MoC and Carlotta, for instance) but living in Japan doesn't help when you want to do some direct ordering. Thanks A****n around the world.

I can't wait for The Thin Red Line and Antichrist to be released! As for now I'm waiting for M, Walkabout and Stagecoach.

Have a family member or significant other who has an e-mail account? Granted others are using their multiple e-mail accounts using the GSA code. But definitely an enticing deal and so many things that the code can be applied on.
