even though the replacement cases are plentiful and readily available, i do not believe they have started mass releasing them in the clear cases. the only one of the original releases that ever made it to the clear cases was the third man, which is now out of print.

yes, that's very common in that culture. as you can see, the english language has permeated many cultures around the world and as a result, we often get a wonderfully colourful mix. definitely not done like that to appease anyone, it's very true to the place (according to Mira Nair and the few people i know who are from India.

Hey, CG... seems to be a bit more fuel under the New Hollywood fire. Still just confirmed via someone on the criterion forum, but here's what they say the exact box will be:

Five Easy Pieces/ Head/ King of Marvin Gardens/ The Last Picture Show/ Easy Rider/ A Safe Place/ Drive, He Said.

here's a link to the CriterionCast post about it. http://criterioncast.com/2010/06/02/...this-november/

within that link is a link to the part of the criterion forum where the board member mentions everything, as well as another upcoming criterion. "Design For Living, which is licensed from Universal.

I took the order it from elsewhere approach. Which arrived fine today, thankfully. Can't say the same for the M blu-ray I had shipped from B&N though; yikes, can't get a break any more. (Or in this instance, did get a broken case.) Just too much to deal with going the Criterion store route; will stick with my other, more reliable options for now (although B&N's apparenlty becoming less of one now for me as well).

Maybe I'll try your approach to try to get a replacement for the Paul Robeson box; couldn't get a decent copy of that anywhere, finally just settled. Years later it still irks me some.

Not sure, but i think you can get them cheaper from Deep Discount this month because of their 25% off summer sale. Might be worth to check it out!

The way Darjeeling Limited came up was because the host asked about working with Wes Anderson because the Museum of Art will be showing The Life Aquatic and she mentioned that they were working on the film. It should be in the video capnnarcolepsy posted.

The first few minutes are missing, but otherwise I believe everything else is there, I'm listening to it now.

right on. it sucks that almost all of the questions are damn near impossible to hear. glad the host repeated many of them, although its a bit funny watching the interviewees reactions without any context.

congrats as well on the signed mystery train!

possibly, or since i know CG, among others are stoked about this, and seeing as how criterioncast updated their site yesterday about it, i thought it would be kind to share. never said it was late-breaking news or anything. further confirmation, it would seem, as i stated.

and besides, if you read this forum near as much as i do, you should suffer from deja vu on a page for page basis.

I'll try and remember what the questions are:

1. I can't remember the first question.
2. He asked about the recent release of Spartacus and the lackluster VQ it has and how Lee thinks that happened.
3. The host repeated this one.
4. He repeated this one as well.
5. This was my question asking how they decided which films got a blu-ray treatment and which would be released on DVD only.
6. They were asked if there are any films that they worked on that they didn't think should have been in the collection and didn't particularly want to work on.

YES...I had never seen this before and was just floored by this movie! I can see why Peter Lorre made it big in Hollywood, just based on his performance in "M".

That sounds about right Beta Man...every B & N store employee I've spoken with over the last month or so has hinted that July seemed to makes sense, as there would be a B2G1F preceding it in June...and here we are!

You are correct. What's posted on the first page of this thread about the replacement cases is a word-for-word e-mail reply that Criterion sent out to people who enquired about the cases in the beginning.

Very, very common. I've spent a great deal of time in India, and English is the common language, at least in the south. Northern India uses Hindi as a common language as well, but in the south most people's first language is Tamil, Telungu, Kannada, Malayalam, Tulu or a regional, tribal dialect. English is what almost all learn as their second language, and it is very uncommon to find anyone educated that doesn't speak at least passable English.

Nair's film is a very realistic portrait of modern India.

Just watched Stagecoach for the first time, and wow was I impressed! It was far better than I expected, as I'm not a big Western fan, nor have I seen much John Wayne that I cared for. This was a deliciously subversive work, not at all what I was expecting. It definitely belongs in the collection.

The stunt work was really first rate (though some animals were certainly harmed during the filming!). The stuntman playing Wayne and the Apache that jumped on the horses both were lucky to survive. I'm yet to see The General (ordered from DD, it will be a while), which I've heard the best stunt work ever...hard to believe it could be any more dangerous than this.

Are any of Ford's other films likely to come out on Criterion?
