HEY! Stop rubbing Chaplin in my face!

I wonder if they'll be done as singles or as a boxset. My heart says boxset...my wallet says HELP!!!!!!!!!

I'm looking at getting a region free player at some point...

Do you know the model(s) of Phillips BD players that are "all region" and do all Targets carry them? (I live in New York State).

Yes CG...both Sunrise and City Girl are region free...

PLEASE let me know if you find that Phillips player and which model...lots of Targets by me!

the player kndy is referring to in that quote is a dvd player. The only all-region BD players, through a mod or remote code that I know of is the LG BH200, OPPO and Momitsu.

I'm really glad to see The Thin Red Line and Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence get Blu-ray releases. I'm really eager to see what the artwork will look like on The Thin Red Line. Hopefully they let us see it in the next couple days.

I think Criterion will release 1-2 stand alone Chaplin blus this year just to get it started. Then maybe lesser known titles in some boxset. Milk it.

For those that find the process of creating Criterion artwork fascinating (such as myself), here is Sam Smith's blog on creating the artwork for the release of "Everlasting Moments." It was his first time designing for Criterion. I love reading about this stuff.

Also, check out Eric Skillman's site for those that like this stuff. He designed the recent "Stagecoach" artwork and "Berlin Alexanderplatz."

I will probably pick up all four of these BDs.

For those of you wondering about region free DVD players, the cream of the crop (as far as I know) is the Oppo DV-980H. It can be made region free by inputting a simple code via the remote, and it's upscaling is supposed to be among the best (often rated higher than that of the PS3). I own the Oppo myself, and while it's a bit more expensive than that Philips player from Target, I figure it's worth it. I mean, if I'm going to spend a load of cash to import the best DVD editions I can find rather than go cheap and get the Kinos... well, then why would I play them on a less-than-stellar DVD player?

Definitely get the MoC Mabuse box! If you're holding your breath for a Criterion version, good luck. MoC has an enormously higher percentage of silents in their collection versus Criterion. If anyone in the US puts out a similar release, it'll probably be Kino--and unless they were to release a Blu-ray version (probably not likely), MoC's version will most certainly be superior. Plus, the MoC version is awesome! Look at the artwork, for crying out loud! And the films feature commentaries by David Kalat! It's a no-brainer for you Fritz Lang fans.

I'm posting this here in case it's missed on the MoC forum...

For those that own "Sunrise", would you suggest watching the Movietone version first or the Czech version first?

Definitely Movietone version. The Czech version is an added bonus like the English-language version of "M."

I just noticed that on the upcoming release of Everlasting Moments there is an essay written by Armond White. I was quite shocked when I saw his name, considering the controversial reviews he puts out. Anyone know when the essay was written? Apparently he used to be a pretty good reviewer back in the day.

EDIT: Sorry for some reason I thought Everlasting Moments came out a long time ago. Completely forgot it came out in 2008.

I wouldn't say he's a "bad" critic. He's certainly not stupid, just likes to rile people up I think.
