accordingly to the criterion site, hausu is 1.33-1.
I hope this a mistake.
I much prefer the UK cover art myself.

Criterion only releases films in the original aspect ratio so if it states 1.33:1 I would guess it is as it was intended.

Any one else have any other info?

Well, MOC's site lists the OAR for "Hausu" as 1.55:1. I haven't seen the MOC disc, though, so I can't comment on what if that's what it actually is.

Criterion has been known to copy disc profile templates for new releases, but they usually straighten everything out after a while. So, it could just be a typo right now.

Well Criterion messed up the ratio on Thin Red Line and fixed it, so it's prob just a site mistake, unless it is the correct ratio, in which MoC was wrong.

From all the sources I could find via Google, OAR for Hausu is 1.55:1

Could just be a misprint on Criterion's part...... Perhaps they will correct it on their site.

I'm happy about The Magician.
I know it's new to the collection.. I have the MGM dvd set and while I think its a good film, it's nowhere near as good as some of his others (I forgot to mention Persona). And I understand not every release is the "biggest hit," although the bigger hits tend to sell more. Bergman is one of my 2 favorite directors (along with Kieslowski), so yeah I'm happy to see it. I'd just be happier with one of his better films.

It's most likely a mistake, I saw the Janus release in the theatre, and if I remember correctly (it was in March, and I've seen so many other films since then) it was around 1.55, not quite 1.66 and more than 1.33.

Edit: And if the blu will be your first time seeing the film, I highly recommend seeing it with a good group of friends. It will definitely enhance the experience. The packed screening I went to was one of the most fun I've been to.

Well for Viderodrome fans, it looks like this will come out on blu (all of the other Amazon leaked pre-orders was true), but I find it surprising this wasn't a Oct release. Though Antichrist didn't make it either.

So 2 more months for announcements of 2010 and have Videodrome, Antichrist, Cronos, The Night of the Hunter, Chaplin?, Broadcast News?, Sweet Smell of Success?, and the New Hollywood Boxset?.

Interesting OAR of 1.55:1 for HOUSE, I wonder what that ratio looks like? I would guess a little more narrow than 1.66:1 ?

Questions:

1) I have yet to receive a response for the payment of the Bottle Rocket replacement case. I was notified within 24 hours for The Man Who Fell To Earth. I payed through paypal on Tuesday so what should I do?

2) If I hated The Red Balloon would I enjoy White Mane and/or Paddle To The Sea? I just didn't like that it was mainly about a balloon. I have nothing against balloons particularly red ones.

Just saw your post, yeah any title like a pre-order or even a title they don't have in stock you can call into the store and ask for the DVD dept and ask to see if you can do a reserve for a release coming out next week etc, and they will look up the item or you can get the UPC item code from their site. I did the same for a couple titles this week that Criterion released on DVD but no area stores had in stock. You don't have to pay until they are in stock *** although certain box sets that may ask that you have to pay in advance.**

Actually, I prob won't. I'm being serious. Not because of my jokes, but because I need to save cash and next month's silents, Breathless blu (I would triple-dip on Godard), the Oshima blu, the 3 I want announced today, rumored titles (Chaplin, New Hollywood, Night of the Hunter), and Kino releases is enough for me for the rest of the year.

Also it helps that I already OWN SEVEN SAMURAI, DARJEELING LIMITED, & THE THIN RED LINE on dvd. So it's not all hate.

Almost all of his children are in the business. The daughter he got with Liv Ullmann is a friend of my family.

Just email them and inquire about it. I was never notified by criterion for any of the replacement cases I ordered.

This Oct is going to bankrupt me. Every one of those titles are first day purchases for me. Except maybe house although I will get it. Seventh Samurai is going to be awesome as will Paths of Glory. Its nice to see Kubrick get some Criterion Bluray love. Now give Hitchcock some love.

For some reason, The Red Shoes just didn't do it for me.

HOWEVER...I streamed Black Narcissus and LOVED it...I "pre-ordered" (they are going to put aside a copy for me) at my local B & N for Tuesday.

Brilliant minds think alike PP!
