Funny with the BBS/New Hollywood set coming out, I read an article the other day about Hollywood needing a new "cleaning" or revolution of young talent, like the New Hollywood era did. Boy do we need it, but today Studios have been playing it "safe" more than ever, so I don't see them taking big chances in something like that, if they can't even take small chances.

One day Hollywood will run out of comic adaptations, things to remake, or people will stop going to go see sequels upon sequels. One day. It's crazy. They are rebooting comic book films made a couple years ago (Spider-man, Fantastic Four). I mean really? No one should go see them to take a stand. They are just making these films because they believe it brings the most money. If we don't pay for them, they will stop making them.

The only "Hollywood" release that I'm looking forward to on BD in the near future is Fantasia...which they have generously included "Destino" that Disney did with Dali.

According to the new bits of information that have been released, the Destino short will not be a part of the Fantasia release anymore.

Am I the only person that didn't love Inglorious Basterds? Tarantino movies are always fun and interesting, but I wasn't too crazy about it. It had some moments of greatness, but overall I thought it was a bit of a mess. I'm not a huge Brad Pitt fan to begin with, but I definitely did not like him in this.
I fixed that right after I noiced it but you caught it anyway.... DAMN YOU!!!!!!!

Hmm...favorite 2009 movies?

(500) Days of Summer
Brothers
Hannah Montana : The Movie
Harry Potter & Half Blood Prince
A Single Man
Up!

There were a few others that I saw and enjoyed, but these were probably my favorite. (Hannah Montana is partially a joke. I mean, I DID see it 3 times in theaters and bought the blu ray, but it's only cuz of my crush on her).

To be honest that show only got hot after it's run because of the cast becoming well known. I believe the movie has been hinted at for a couple years. I'm not hating on the show (never watched half of the shows), but it's obvious why it's popular now and not so when it aired.

well I'm about to send paypal to get an actual case for my copy of The Last Emperor

is it worth grabbing cases for other movies I hope to get later during the hopeful holiday B&N sale (like Bottle Rocket and Chungking Express) or are they being replaced in stores with the normal case? I know I saw a copy of Bottle Rocket at a Barnes & Noble during the summer sale in a regular case

His films are on and off for me. I do look forward to Black Swan, but nothing to help save the year or anything.

But my views on Hollywood at the moment can be said for mainstream music as well.

I wouldn't get my hopes up with awards season. The awards nominees/winners were mediocre at best last year. The Hurt Locker for Best Picture? I mean really?

Expanding back to 10 nominees last year was . Just making Hollywood look bad putting more crap films in competition for the best pic of the year. I am just looking forward to what they think are the 10 best movies this year.

Don't even get me going on that BS. The entire reason they expended to 10 films is obviously so more Director's can put that little "Best Picture nominee" stamp on their DVD/Blu-Ray releases. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes to 15 or 20 Best Picture nominees eventually.

I wonder if the Avatar "re-re-release extended cut" gets nominated for Best Picture this year.

It's just reason #999,999 why an Oscar means crap. I wouldn't be surprised by a 15 to 20 Best Picture nominees increase.

I still haven't to this day seen Avatar. Still no plans to either. Last year's winner The Hurt Locker was an okay movie, but I wonder if these people who votes knows that the winner goes down in history with the other past winners. It just isn't a "in the now" thing. It's what best represents this year for years to come looking back. When I look at the history of winners, I don't why half of them are even there.

Although they will probably destroy it, I am really looking foward to the Tintin trilogy over the next 5 or so years

And hoping that Enter The Void gets a US theatrical run later this year or next. And whatever Wong Kar Wai's next film is...

But yeah, anything American besides PTA should be pretty lackluster

Isn't Tintin that unicorn movie Spielberg is directing? I wouldn't be too optimistic about that project...

But anything with Spielberg's name on it will make the studio $ out the a** and alot of people will go see it (not me). Maybe if he sprinkles some tears in the movie, an Oscar as well. If he can get the unicorn to have a kid ride on it across the sky......BAM! CLASSIC!

I see many people like 500 Days of Summer. I found the film to be hipster-drivel. In its simplest form the film is about a simp (Tom) and a jerk (Summer). The film just tried so hard to be quirky and hip that it was nauseating. Not to mention what a pretentious witch Summer was, also:

-Hey, we both like the same indy bands! We're destined to be together!

-Summer crying watching The Graduate

-Tom's song and dance number in the park

-"I was reading Dorian Gray when...."

-Ringo/Octopus' Garden are her favorite Beatle/Beatles' song (Ringo is the man but this is like saying Hitchcock is my favorite director and Under Capricorn is my favorite Hitchcock picture)
_______________
As for the Academy expanding to 10-- it's a joke. However, they used to do it in the 40's. Although last year's field doesn't hold a candle to this:

1942

WINNER
How Green Was My Valley (20th Century-Fox)
NOMINEES
Blossoms in the Dust (M-G-M)
Citizen Kane (Mercury)
Here Comes Mr. Jordan (Columbia)
Hold Back the Dawn (Paramount)
One Foot in Heaven (Warner Bros.)
Sergeant York (Warner Bros.)
Suspicion (RKO Radio)
The Little Foxes (Samuel Goldwyn Productions)
The Maltese Falcon (Warner Bros.)
