Not much love for it apparently, but I thought it was one of his best. You're not alone.

I'm looking to pick up a couple more of these after enjoying the first one I watched. I was wondering if these go on sale very often. I've seen mention of Barnes and Noble sales but just started buying blu's again so I missed them. Thanks.

Spielberg has made some great films (Duel) and some not-so-great ones (War of the Worlds) but one cannot doubt his respect and admiration for those that came before him. Same thing with Scorsese, I love hearing those guys talk about film because they're so passionate about it.

Frankly, some of you make him out to be Michael Bay when that's F A R from the truth.

Watch a film like DUEL or MUNICH and try to tell me those suck.

You really didn't provide enough information for anyone to gauge what type of movies you enjoy. You mention that you enjoyed the "first one" you watched... but, what title was it??? The B&N sale has only happened three times so far... twice last year and once this year so far. People are expecting another B&N sale in November this year.

I would suggest reading pro-b's reviews of the Criterion blu-rays on this site for the information you seek. And, if you want to venture into the Criterion DVDs, you should visit their site and read the synopses to see if there's something you might be interested in.

His last post mentioned "Repulsion" and someone already recommended a few, including "Wages of Fear" (one of my favorites)

I think Marienbad, Knife in the Water, and Bigger than Life would all be good choices too..... but I really don't know what else he enjoys

I've been reading up on them some. I'm open for pretty much anything. I was just curious if criterion blus go on sale very often or not. Reading some older posts I saw mention of a few different sales and was just curious before I bought some more since they are a bit more expensive then the usually blu's I buy.

Hopefully there'll be one in November at B&N. They don't go on sale very often. I suggest renting these movies first before going out and buy them because like you said they are expensive and you never know if you'll like them.

I try to google them and then click on the "shopping" tab on the top. I can usually find them for about $24.99 or so, which beats the $40 that most retailers charge. I found a whole bunch at J&R.com when I first started collecting for 24.99, but realized after a few orders that it was a sale. The prices have gone back up to $29.99.

Just try searching and see what you can find.

The next best thing to B&N for me is at Borders with 40% off coupon + 10% off Borders Plus membership, which brings the prices down to about $22.

Alright I'll just keep an eye out then. Hopefully gonna be picking up The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Last Emperor and Chungking Express. Hopefully later down the road I'll pick up the Yojimbo/Sanjuro set. Where do most of you guys rent them? Netflix? I'm usually not a big fan of renting but maybe I should on these.

Yeah, Netflix, I'd say. Blockbuster is going down the drain soon, and RedBox definitely isn't going to have Criterion movies in them. Not sure of your age, but maybe you could try out Netflix's free trial period.

There are a couple of Criterion films on Hulu.com now, as well.

Yeah Netflix is good. Also, I'd try out your local library. Mine has almost every Criterion on DVD and it's free.

I wish I had a Borders near me...closest one is in Charlotte...and I'm 45 min to an hour away. Where does one find a coupon for 40%...might be worth a trip if I can save that much?

Thanks!

You need to sign up for their free membership in stores and then they'll occasionally send you the coupons usually once or twice a month. The coupons, however allow you to use it on one item per day and it's usually valid for a three day duration. I'll usually bring someone else with me and then loan them my card with another printed coupon so I can get two at a time.

I don't believe in Netflix. I recommend trying your local library system or even inter-library loan.

We're not talking about the Loch Ness Monster here........ what's not to believe? I'm not sure what your experiences with Netflix are/have been, but I find them to have a great selection, it's very affordable, and on the majority of the non blockbuster stuff, the availability is fantastic.
