I do it all the time. (Sad that I have to.)
i have never once had Amazon request that i send anything back when theyve replaced anything. never got a return label and was never charged for anything. guess it varies.

Help!

I have been working on kicking my steelbook habit for a couple of months now... But i'm afraid I've done nothing more than replace it with a criterion habit.

Having only 2 titles in my collection coming into the weekend i have just tripled it! I picked up darjeeling limited and charade on the weekend and I've just ordered Gomorrah and cronos. This is getting out of hand!

Sometimes a day, sometimes over a week. There's no correct answer.

The last case issue I had was with "Videodrome." I started with contacting Criterion but wound up going back to Amazon and I had the replacement the next day.

I suggest you abandon both Steelbooks, and Criterion releases...... Have you seen this yet???? It's the promised land (not the one Elvis spoke of however)

That's hilarious! As I was reading that, I kept picturing that scene in Fight Club where they were talking about Tyler Durden, "...they say he never sleeps..."

I just hope you're actually watching these films and enjoying them. Otherwise, stay out of here. Seriously, steelbook collectors have a serious issue of buying the same films multiple times just because of the different artwork. Most of those films are absolutely dreadful, too, and I couldn't even imagine spending my money on one copy. Studios these days know, too, that putting a film in a steelbook is going to sell more copies of a crappy movie than if they didn't. To sum it all up... watch the films.

Maybe it's a side-effect of using the online replacement request. How do you request your replacements?

I do watch the movies I buy, that is for certain, but I do enjoy all film and think criterion has a really interesting catalog. I have several of the desirable steelbooks and they are all opened and well watched, some criterion collectors may have no time for these titles but I'm not hear looking to convert anyone, I'm here looking for help

I wish Criterion could acquire the following titles and release them on Blu-ray:

1.) The Crying Game (1992) Miramax Films

2.) The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane (1976) American International Pictures (Theatrical release) SONY/MGM (DVD release)

3.) The Search (1948) MGM (Theatrical release)

4.) Freud: The Secret Passion (1962) Universal International (Theatrical release)

5.) Gods and Monsters (1995) Lionsgate Films (Theatrical release)

...and many others I can't think of at the moment.

You really believe "Jon Mulvaney" the person exists? I've always thought he was a composite character they created. IE. it's the intern who answered the email. "Jon Mulvaney" is the all-knowing, always helpful PR face of Criterion. He's Criterion's George Kaplan.

I've mentioned it before. I ran into Jon Mulvaney last December when I was down in NYC for my birthday. There is flesh and blood.

Did you hurt him?

[Show spoiler]

I found this on another forum:

I'm pretty sure you're correct about this. I was standing behind two people, a man and a woman in line for a screening of The Leopard at the Lincoln Center's Walter Reade Theater a couple years ago. They were talking about writing cover text for DVD releases or something like that, which kind of got my attention. Anyway, at one point she asked him, "So, are you still at Criterion doing the Mulvaney thing?" He kind of rolled his eyes and said he was, but they didn't carry the conversation beyond that. I don't remember his name (I believe she said it), but it certainly wasn't Jon Mulvaney.

Perhaps someone can order $150 worth of swag from Criterion, and special-request that their "sketch" be that of the legend himself..... "Jon Mulvaney"

His emails are always written in the same "voice". I just assumed...and I also heard rumors of ccfixx meeting and having an illustrious affair with him.
