Somewhat tense, but I'd describe it as a Drama much more than a "Thriller".

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I want at least one more Criterion before Army of Shadows. I was thinking The Leopard, but there are other ones like Close-up, Play Time, and Mystery Train, that seemed interesting to me.

I have seen 2 of those 3. I have yet to see Mystery Train. While I did enjoy Playtime, I absolutely loved Close-Up.

Keep in mind that B&N will be running their Buy 2 Get 1 free sale in January. I believe it starts 1/4. That should get CC's (with a 10% off for membership and 10% off normal CC prices discount) around the low to mid $20 price range for 3 of 'em.

Haha, yea, i posted this a while back when I first found out, but nobody responded. I think it was either posted in the middle of a heated discussion, or nobody cared. Either way, I'll be shopping at B&N during January!

Well then, if this is true, I might get two Criterion Blus, with Le Samourai, or something of that nature. Although I do not have a membership with them.

Try changin' that to "for each" so other people don't get confused.

Well, it's categorized under thriller, so I was just wondering.

I'm also leaning towards Close-Up if I end up not picking up The Leopard.

It's a legitimate question; I wasn't being a smartass. A journey through Mexico to the US border can be an intense thriller as Sin Nombre shows, but El Norte IMO felt more like an easy-going Paris, Texas-type road movie.

I wasn't trying to make you out to be a smartass, so I apologize. Thank you for answering my question though. Oh, and I absolutely love Sin Nombre.

Just got done watching "The Night of the Hunter." What a fabulous transfer. If you thought "Paths of Glory" looked great, you are in for a real treat. The various shades of black and white along with the detail, is the best I have ever seen with this movie. At times, I felt as if I could reach out and actually feel the texture shown on the screen.

Default Cronos problems

I recently purchased a copy of Guillermo del Toro's Cronos on blu ray and the disc does not appear to be working on my BDPS350. The Criterion logo appears in the upper left corner of the screen and I waited for about twenty minutes but nothing else happened. I returned the disc today at Barnes and Noble and the same thing happened. I ordered a new firmware update for my player but discs that have come out around the same time as Cronos have been working perfectly. Not really sure what to do otherwise.

Seems like the sale is live. It works with January preorders as well. I would be all over it but i got my January titles cheaper at borders with the free borders bucks and coupons they keep sending me.

They had a song in In Bruges which was a great film.

One of my favourite releases of the year was The Red Shoes. This was a blind buy for me and I absolutely loved it. I actually would have played it again immediately afterward if my girlfriend wasn't there to awaken me from my trance. I even purchased a copy for my assistant for Christmas.
This caused me to look up the soundtrack. Does anyone have any thoughts on Carter Burwell? I know I'm a bit mid-brow for this thread, but he is on the soundtrack of my favorite movie in each of the last three years (No Country/2007, In Bruges/2008, Where The Wild Things Are/2009). I should listen to more of his music.

I should also probably check out Howl now just in case.
