I think you misinterpreted the joke. It's supposed to be a pun-esque fake title that gets across an idea that is similar, but much less impressive, than the original film title. I would have no idea what original titles you were referring to if you hadn't put them in parantheses afterwards. (well I guess I could guess some, but having to guess what they refer to is a pretty good sign they aren't funny in the pun-esque way desired).

Not that these are particularly brilliant, but here are some examples of the style desired:

The Bicycle Thief -> The Bicycle Borrower
8 1/2 -> 8
Dillinger Is Dead -> Dillinger Is Under The Weather

My submissions were

Wings of Ambivalence
Flatbread for Frankenstein

So, since you have both copies, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you also dug the film. Unless, you know, you're just a "collector". =P

Unless you read something I didn't, I don't see how I misinterpreted the idea of a less ambitious title--they never asked us to pun on the titles, just for "less ambitious" titles--but it doesn't matter, there were so many entries that it's incredibly unlikely I'll win, and my anti-Anderson jab will, undoubtedly, disqualify me.

FWIW, I thought "Mathematics for Home Defense" was my best one.

I got lucky and snagged copies of M (sealed), The Third Man, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Seven Samurai (sealed), Yojimbo, Sanjuro and Videodrome (sealed) from a Pawn Shop for $10 each and they had a deal of buy 3 get 1 free so I got them all for under $65

Well they gave "Dillinger Is Fine" as an example, so....

But you're right, it doesn't matter.

Yes, I bought the film not long after it was released. The MOC release was offered to me free not too long ago. I accepted the free copy only because I could.

Hey all,

I just got in my BD of Chunking Express directly from Criterion. Not sure if I will have time to watch it tonight, but will post my thoughts when I do.

Are there any fans of this film on here?

Thanks Kndy. I snagged Chaplin & La Roue. The December order I placed with DD was handled pretty much flawlessly (following the September fiasco), so I'm still doing business with them.

Less Ambitious.... (Feel free to borrow......errr.... "steal" )

"Lost and Found.... the DMV Story"
Carnival of Souls ---> "County Fair of Tao"
Fat Girl ----> "Precious"
For All Mankind -----> "To Whom It May Concern"
The Ice Storm ----> "Hard Rain" (I think I'm addicted to referencing other movies )
Peeping Tom -----> "Jay-Walker"
Robocop ----> "Mall Cop" or "Off-Duty Officer"
Mon Oncle -----> "Ma Tante"

That's it for now...... too fun.... too fun....

EDIT:

Does everyone call it the "DMV" or is "BMV" for you guys?

EDIT AGAIN:

I get the biggest kick out of the "For All Mankind" one..... I have a terrible sense of humor though.

That is alarming, although often the case...they love to pick uninspired answers. I remember a similar situation with the AK 100 set giveaway.

It looks like Beta Man took a similar approach to mine and I prefer the idea of interpreting a original title through the film, but whatever, Criterion are the film geniuses, apparently.
