Absolutely jcs!...and you have a choice of either a "concert mix" or a "soundboard mix" (don't remember what they called them).

Well, I'm confidently blind-buying the film, so I'd rather check it out for the first time on Blu-ray.

That was all that needed to be said. I just told you it was on T.V. all of the time, since you wrote it like you had to be tied down because of your wait, and I got a couple of Stormtroopers acting like they can take on Darth Vader.

CG, I was making a reference to you as Vader, since many seem to see you as him...

PS: It was a joke...

Yeah, that's why I called myself Darth Vader. Your not one of the Stormtroopers I was talking about, so your cool. The 2 that felt the need to act like I was bashing someone because I replied to someone's post.

I know, your 'street cred' has taken a hit. But hey, speaking of 'the dark knight', how about a discussion of how Nolan's films belong in the CC...
There's nothing better than that.

Why are you even on this board?

If I were looking forward to a blind-buy or a movie I hadn't seen in a long time, the last thing I would want to do is ruin the Blu-ray viewing by watching it in a tiny, overcompressed stream just before that. Seems pretty obvious to me (and he did say he couldn't wait for the "release".)

For those interested, you can go directly to Caitlin Kuhwald's website which has a link to her Etsy store. You can pick up a smaller (15" x 5.75") print of her "Amarcord" artwork for $30 plus shipping. It seems to be printed the same way as the Criterion version... only smaller.

Yes. I tried and tried and tried but every time I edited my post it wouldn't capitalize it

Maybe it's because I copied it from the newsletter and it brought some HTML junk over with it.

Default Still favor the Criterion Veronique

2. What the Criterion release shows more of is actually light noise, not grain as speculated by some, which is fairly easy to spot. If you look at screencapture #3, bottom, right, you could clearly see it. The noise shifts throughout the entire film. Additionally, if I had to speculate I would say that a fresh 4K scan of the ON would actually produce an image that is in fact much closer to what you see on the Artificial Eye disc - smoother and tighter grain structure (currently you have 2K used for the two transfers), not DNR-ed "smoother" image.
I have to say, I just went back and did a side by side comparison and I still come out in favor of the Criterion. To me, it is a much more detailed image. Colors hold together better. The AE, while still very nice, is softer in a way I don't remember the film being when I've seen it projected. The richer colors and deeper blacks of the Criterion are, if nothing else, more pleasing to my eye. The softer look of the AE transfer is not. The sharper image of the Criterion also does not feel manipulated, but quite natural. It does not feel a product of edge-enhancement. Of course, all transfers are manipulated, but the Criterion still feels more film-like to me. And noise seems to be at a minimum to my eye. To me, it looks more like grain than noise in almost all cases, though there seems to be slight noise in both transfers if one looks closely enough. The Criterion transfer also exhibits more depth. Compare the close-up of the red box containing the marionettes when first revealed. As it turns, the fabric, the trim... Or when Veronique drives past the church which looms in the foreground. Or the walk out of the train station toward the blown-up car. Notice the color and light differences here between the two, how they play on fabrics, surfaces. And the level of detail. The Criterion is, again, how I remember the film. And, for me personally, how I prefer it. Though both transfers honor the film well. Just somewhat differently.

first and foremost: why do all the spammers seem to post in this thread? just now there was another spammer from a new account posting gibberish. this is like the fourth time in a few weeks i've seen this in this thread, but i don't see it happen nearly as much in other threads

second: dammit Criterion! i didn't read the reviews of Fish Tank and Veronique, but i read about the stories and they interest me, so chances are they will be on my "to get list" come the next B&N sale. however, once i start my netflix account in a few weeks my main goal is to get through all the Criterion titles on my wishlist (blind buy wishlist) to see if i should actually buy them or not.

third: i think ALL Criterion's require at least two viewings to appreciate fully and truly decide if i should add it to my collection. sure, a few right away i knew i'd want to add (Revanche), but some i liked, but not enough to buy, but maybe on repeat viewings i would like it more and buy it (Walkabout).

So the only people that should be on this board are people that gets wet over "C-only" releases and shouldn't watch movies pre-Criterion? Oh and don't forget to circle jerk our collections and hauls, because you know, films are about how many we can stack!

Don't ask why am I on this board. The FAB over Criterion blu-ray is lame (not everyone), to the point of collecting just to collect them. I see the people on here that buys them because it's something to collect and end up on the sales thread un-open because they never really wanted them in the first place. There are people that starts slipcover threads on here. SLIPCOVER THREADS! Let that sink in for a min. Don't act like I'm a troll or spammer or whatever because I replied to someones' boner for a C release, when what matters should be the film. I don't care what my "Rep" is on here, and others can keep posting youtube links with 3 Stooges songs, because that is your waste of time. I should be doing the 3 Stooges song to every thread that has a "Got EM!" or "SLIPCOVER FANS '11" or "What is your fav boobshot?" or "Packages is what I buy, not films. I'm sending this purchase back!" crap.

Now you all got something to chew on tonight. Make it good. Tell me how much I am a troll and I hate on people even though I'm replying towards the same crap of what you will all say I am. This rant is either what you all wanted anyways or it's getting in the way of collections posts and if a film arrived in "mint condish!". Either way, it's something to hate SB/CG about.

As you were.
actually, he was a jedi knight that turned to the dark side, so technically, he is the original dark knight.

I love when CG goes off his meds...... A lot of people buy a lot of different things for a lot of different reasons..... But I agree, the films are first and foremost.

My last 4 watched films were:

Iron Man
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Hudsucker Proxy
The Last Picture Show

Little bit for everyone, but they were all "For me" I'm not going to skip out on a "Turn your brain off comic book flick with silly lines" because I wanted something "Fun" to watch, and that's just what it was..... and if you don't like the "Late Night.... Double Feature.... Picture Show..... " then that's fine, it's not for everyone, but just because it's not terribly deep doesn't mean it's not enjoyable..... I realize the Coen Bro's have gone off to make films that did well in the box-office, so it may be sacrilege to say I enjoy them, but I do.... and The Last Picture Show.... A good story holds up over time, and it's a great story.

Just trying to fit in with myself..... it's tough, but I'm working on it.

We all have our bad days, and I don't take meds. I said a movie is on T.V. and I get s***, so f yeah I'm going to go off. So sorry for me telling someone a film is on T.V.! I must be dumb to not think he just wants it being a Criterion and not because of the film.

Ahh... I missed that section of posts.... I just saw Vader references, a link to The Three Stooges theme song (I used to go to a pizza joint when I was a kid that projected old (obviously) Three Stooges films on the wall... fond memories and I love the Three Stooges but don't own ANY of it on DVD or otherwise for some reason, but anyways...)

The whip cracks quick in this thread!

Now.... I can go back to reading all of the current fighting in the other 100 threads while I listen to my daughter snore on the baby monitor, and my Bluegrass on Pandora....

In my opinion, removing the condescension and bellicose nature of many of your posts, would go along way in helping to facilitate a Criterion environment, where people take the time to discuss the overt and subtle nuances of cinema and the directors involved, as it relates to the subject matter of the thread.

While there may be a few semi-regulars who are Criterion "collectors," I believe that percentile is insignificant, in relation to the large majority of members who participate in the thread. I believe one can be a "collector" of Criterion films, and still enjoy each movie purchased and watched. If some people wish to discuss certain aspects of "collecting" Criterion and the joy it brings them (in whatever way), so what. If a person has a "collector" aspect to their collection, it doesn't make them wrong, nor does it make them shallow, because you perceive them as having the wrong focus. What matters, is each one of us being happy with our respective purchases, regardless of whether or not you, I, or anyone else in the thread agrees with another member's reasoning.

Greek used a figure of speech in his post, in relation to looking forward to a film's Blu-ray release. Instead of passing by the post, or better yet, recognizing it for what it was, you went out of your way to be arrogant and combative, bringing tension to the thread when it didn't need to be here. And when confronted, you wrapped yourself in the ash-cloth of victimhood, and proceeded to vent your obstinate disapproval for other threads and persons unrelated to this thread. You aren't a victim. Far from it. You have the ability to voice your opinion here just as the rest of us do. It is the acerbic nature and tenuous tone of your posts, that many people take issue with, from time to time.

Belittling people and making judgments of other people and how they spend their money, isn't practical or logical, when one wishes to have what they perceive to be meaningful cinematic discussions about various directors and films.
