Are people really degrading "Smiles of a Summer Night" in here?... lol

If I could have had a Bergman, I would have prefered "Winter Light", but "Smiles" is a great suprise...

By the way, incase anyone missed it...

The new "Taxi Driver" Blu-Ray will have the Infamous Criterion Collection LaserDisc Commentary by Scorsese and Schrader...

Very excited about this news.

No it is not a shame. Isn't anyone tired of the same ol' basics? Seventh Seal, Breathless, Seven Samurai, suck suck suck! Is it because you are beginning to see these films? Because the people who yawn at the Seven Samurai upgrades or the soon to be Wild Strawberries is because we have seen them for years. Little titles are not a "shame" because you haven't seen them. It's a shame that people throw them away because lists and critics didn't blow them while talking Seventh Seal.

This is why I am bored with Criterion as we speak. Same ol' crap. It's cool for the ones who hasn't seen these, but you also have to consider the long fans of these that are tired of seeing the same crap over and over.

Nice birthday announcement

Already knew about Solaris which I am very happy about but thank you so much for The Great Dictator. It's not City Light who I wish for but it's alright! I don't mind too much about upgrading movies in certain cases and for these two in particular it's not a problem. I might even get Bergman's Smiles Of A Summer Night.

What I'm wondering, though, is how many of these titles are we going to need to explain to you why they're "significant," Jedi?

I was thrilled that Criterion changed the cover art for the new Solaris release. The old one wasn't bad... but I love the font of the new issue of Solaris more.

Diabolique now has a cooler cover than the old DVD release. ( I know many hate the animated covers but hey it isn't a normal studio photoshop hack job :-) (Have you seen TAXI DRIVER ugh how boring and just plain lazy)

No one seems to like the more stylized Chaplin covers, but I don't mind them. Beats the old basic DVD release covers for sure.

May is going to be a pricy month. Solaris is the one I am most looking forward to.

So is the next superhero movie, video games, youtube videos, etc on the internet. So "EPIC" is downgrading.

Chaplin's Topsy-Turvy looks good. Oh, what, it's not Topsy-Turvy? huh. How do ya like that!

The collection being invaded by things like Broadcast News and Something Wild leads me to believe they've already released everything good they could get their hands on. So that's it, the Criterion Collection is done, over, nothing more to see. From now on it will just be the same titles being re-released over and over again in cycles.

I can name 1,000s of films (heck even non-studio films) that they could look to. Should I start?

haven't seen a lot of post 1927 and pre90s films. so there's always a huge gap =P

but i've seen most films made pre1927 (big silent film buff). i've seen all of Chaplin's complete discography. i still like his 1921, 'The Kid' the best. still his most personal film. so will def. grab that once that is out... meanwihle... i luv collecting any Chaplin on BD.

Both Broadcast News and Something Wild are worthy of being in the Criterion Collection. They are 2 of the best films of the 1980's.

I got to watch Bucking Broadway this morning. Awesome supplement silent on Stagecoach. It works well for Valentine's Day.

Bergman is AMAZING.
Persona is my favorite Bergman and one of my all-time favorites. It would be sublime on BR with Sven Nykvist's fantastic cinematography (as would Virgin Spring and countless others, of course).

If anyone has any tip on its status with MGM---- please share!

Aren't you about 20? Was just questioning your patronizing attitude. Anyway, you act like a five year old (and have the grammar of one too).

That's cool, I fit right in with the 5 year old movie liking on this forum and the bashing of cover art.
