I'm not sure exactly why, but for some reason I feel like we are getting close to seeing Brazil. I would not be surprised if they announce it soon.

I watched the blu-ray last nite and sold it in about 30 mins on amazon haha. I guess I would have to say I wasn't impressed. Also the BD had a lot of color banding that I couldn't deal with. Technically it was interesting to a point. I can't add much more to it than that.

I tend to use essential in a narrower, more literal 'without A, B or C film would be radically different' sense and in that sense not a lot of individuals make the cut.

I think true innovation is pretty rare and most of what we (rightly) look on as major influences or innovations tend to be relatively incremental changes to what was already being done.

That's not to downplay the creativity or talent of the people moving the chains. Some of those people were huge but I think even their contributions were more incremental/evolutionary than not.

[i've got an ambien starting to kick in and this looks like an okay stopping point - if it turns out i've typed this all in romulan or something, well, trust me, it's all brilliant]
As long as we got it all squared away. Now to complain about the releases tomorrow (not really as Criterion gave me something to look forward to. Maybe not this announcement, but soon.)

Did you not notice that I was agreeing with you? I was just commenting on his work as a whole, which wasn't directed at anyone in particular. The cinematography in Irreversible is pretty impressive too.

Though I'm holding out for some Tsai Ming Liang
Malle's Au Revoir is out tomorrow as well. And it's looking likely Malle's Black Moon will get announced tomorrow so you never know about more Yang.

Has Criterion Cast posted their June predictions? I checked their website but don't know where they typically post them.

They usually post them on their Twitter feed on announcement days. I don't think they typically post anything on their website until after the announcements.

Saw Chungking Express, with plastic packaging, at Barnes for the first time in months. Snagged that up.

It's not all that high on my upgrade list but it's definitely an excellent film.

And any MGM talk keeps my hopes for The Killing alive and well.

12 Angry men is great news IMO.

The Killing is set in stone AFAIK, so no need to hope.

Taken from The Auteurs or Mobi or whatever it's called.... (via google image search)

I like the idea they were going with, seeing as the story revolves around a crime that occurred in an apartment complex near a train etc...

Do you know if they've talked about it at all?

I know we've been talking about it for a while (since Paths of Glory was announced at least, maybe longer) but I don't that I've ever seen anybody talk about confirmation on their end.

Ever since they showed it at All Tomorrow's Parties it has been assumed that they would release it at some point.
