My favourite Criterion must be Videodrome. The cover is so cool. I already glanced it some 20 times. I can't say the same for others. There are releases that still remained un-glanced. I will glance them soon. I hope.

I wish Criterion would sell a replacement case for EVERY film, and not just the original 9

It would be much cheaper for me to just buy the cases and put them on my shelf with my old Scooby-Doo videos inside... or better yet... porn... nobody would ever want to watch them because they're all crazy-old-subtitled-B&W films with black-bars on the screen.... it could be my "Secret"

Debbie Does Dallas could be in "Paris Texas" for instance.... it'd be a cataloging system all my own.

Beta, I tried that idea, you still get 'caught'

BTW, great news on Criterion honoring those pre-orders. I had hopes for my 11 pre-orders and it looks like it will turn into a great deal after all!!

They do. The hinge on my storage unit ripped up the Bigger than Life Case. I emailed Criterion and they said I could get a replacement for $5. I paypal'd them the dough and got a new case.

I received my copy of "M" this morning from Amazon, and as usual because of their cheap cardboard packaging, the case is badly broken at several places. I don't want to go through the process of returning the item, so does anybody know where I could get an empty case that would not cost me 10$?

Returning/exchanging is free, and I don't see how it could be any more hassle than finding/buying a replacement case.

They'll probably just send another one which will arrive equally damaged like 75% of the time I order a Criterion from Amazon.

I'm guessing what you consider "Badly damaged" is greatly different than me, but none-the-less, I'd at least try it....

If you're so accustomed to receiving 'damaged' products from Amazon, you should do what PowellPressburger here does.... Only order the films that come in plastic cases from Amazon, and get the other ones elsewhere.

Are you in the U.S.?

I'm in Canada. The top of the case is missing a huge plastic chip, the booklet came loose due to both holders being broken and the disc doen't clip in the middle. I think I can say "badly damaged"...

I'll try returning the item.

Hope I don't get ****ed over like that time with NIGHT OF THE HUNTER... I feel like crying every time I see those bad bumps and scratches on the package.

It didn't even click with me that "M" is in a plastic case...

Yeah, I've never even had a problem with their digipaks etc.... let-alone a plastic case..... your mail-delivery must consist of a bunch of roid-raging-gorillas or something.

If it doesn't hold the disc, that would be an issue for sure.

Great, because my order isn't expected to ship until May 24. Nice to know they're honoring the orders with pre-ordered titles and discounts taken off the sale price. If all goes well I’ll end up getting The Great Dictator, Sweet Smell of Success, Bigger Than Life, and Summer Hours for $63.92. All of them blind buys except The Great Dictator.

I first saw The Great Dictator in a Literature & Film course in college. Classes were held twice a week, 1 hour 15 minutes on Mondays and 2.5 hours on Wednesdays. We would watch films on Wednesdays and discuss them on Mondays.

That class really motivated me to explore different films.

Beta.

I recently got a broken plastic case directly from Criterion (Videodrome purchased during the facebook sale).

I mailed them when it showed up, they mailed me immediately to say they would replace it and a few days later to say the replacement was in the mail.

I'm still showing it as "Confirmation Number" and not tracking number yet.... so once It gives me a tracking number, I'll feel a little better

My first three shipments are at $63.92 and my last is at $79.90

If they honor them all, not only will I be jumping for joy at the great deal I got...... but I'll be one Blu-ray away from a $50 GC with them!

I'll definitely be returning to it at some point.
Agree completely, it's an excellent film. It creates tension naturally, as opposed to doing it by force. The lack of score is very effective. The dialogue and direction are great. The sub-titles are as they should be--there's a very distinct reason why they appear to be grammatically incorrect in the first portion of the film.

At least it didn't come in a freaking envelope like my copy of Che arrived in yesterday. It was in perfect condidtion, though. I constantly leave feedback on the packaging and the last month or so has been terrible. I bought the sixth season of the Sopranos and Part I's case was damaged (dented and a tear) because of inadequate insulation. I uploaded an image. I even gave Che's packaging a single star because of the envelope. It's inexcusable; I'm paying for Amazon Prime, at least ship things in a box with proper protection.

So, I currently own Benjamin Button, Che, and The Thin Red Line. Solaris will arrive in May.

Just got The 400 Blows from amazon, and it came in cardboard packaging (in mint condition). I love digipacks, so I'm really happy.

Btw, isn't this version OOP for a while now?

I used to work for UPS, we basically knew what was in those little brown packages. We were all tired, hungry and overworked, and sure as shit not going to walk into the truck if we can just whip the package into It's proper section [kind of]. I used to hum those things all the time.

Sorry about your broken cases, they're completely the carriers fault.

Sometimes you wish you can pay a bit more for "extra" packaging where they just stuff a bunch of those peanut things in there and use a bigger box, but NO.

I'd probably do it considering what I know happens with the tiny packages.

Still, if they could put a bubble wrapper inside, it would pretty much solve the problem. I'm tired of receiving damaged goods from various places and will start returning everything that isn't delivered intact. You guys should see my copy of NIGHT OF THE HUNTER...
