Terrence Malick, you mean? Yeah.

I've seen Days Of Heaven. Pretty impressive cinematography there. I say the same for Tree Of Life too.

Kinda wonder why it is I never get any email from them any more. I'm still a member, and I do order online every so often (when there's good coupons or I run across a good deal) and visit their stores (mostly to grab a magazine or two between sales). Guess I should check for email preferences at the site...

Perhaps someone ran across an online 50% code, can think of a few things I've been putting off waiting for a sale somewhere. Guess I can come up with something at one of their stores, though hadn't planned on making an excursion that far out until Tuesday. Time maybe for some rescheduling.

I never used to get their emails either.

Try setting up an account on their website (for ordering BDs, DVDs, etc.) as you have to give an email account. I think I started receiving emails from them shortly after that.

Let me know if you're successful.

Thanks for the tip. I will try that.

Will go look, but I order online every couple of months or so, stopped getting them a few years back.

It says last updated my preferences 12/26/2005 (and they all seem to be what they should be)... Went ahead and changed one. See what happens.

I think it's also worth noting that the Loach BBC television film Cathy Come Home, which is included as a supplement, was itself voted #2 in an industry poll of 'The 100 Best TV Programmes' conducted by the BFI in 2000:

http://www.bfi.org.uk/features/tv/100/list/list.php

beating out the likes of Doctor Who and Monty Python's Flying Circus and second only to Fawlty Towers.

BFI had released it on PAL DVD some years ago, but it has been out-of-print for some time now, and fetches high prices on the second-hand market.

To my mind, the inclusion of Cathy Come Home makes Criterion's edition of Kes even more of a must-buy than it already would be.

I never gave Kes much thought, but after reading the review and doing a little more research on the film, it is a must buy for me. Really looks amazing, and the short film (really not very short) film that's included looks very interesting as well. Looks like a really good disc from Criterion.

Just watched Criterion's DVD of The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, courtesy of netflix. What a great movie. Perfect pacing and an interesting story with a lot of relevant dimensions.

I just got Netflix last month and it has been worth every penny (well, the first month is free... but still... I'll definitely be keeping the subscription). I'd been wanting to delve into Criterion's DVD catalog, since there is a lot of stuff there that looks excellent--while perhaps not coming to blu-ray for a long time (if ever). Been able to stream a respectable number of titles (L'avventura comes to mind), as well as a number of DVDs through the mail (And The Ship Sails On, for example). Definitely makes up for not being able to collect DVDs (a fiscal problem more than a moral problem).

Wendie Malick..... Heck yes! I see where you're going with this, but I gotta say.... As much as "A Little Sex" deserves the Criterion treatment.... I just feel like Bruce Paltrow is gonna get snubbed.

This is common knowledge, and most articles typically mention it, but Kes was Krzysztof Kieślowski's favorite film.

On the other hand, when you receive your discs and watch the film, pay close attention to Billy's eyes - some of the most beautiful blue eyes you would ever see captured on film. On the UK SDVD even the close-ups look incredibly blurry and you cannot quite tell how beautiful they are.

Too bad David Bradley's career never took off.

I was really looking forward to this release. Fortunately, it is everything I wanted it to be. I consider Ken Loach one of the top 5 greatest living directors, and to have Kes finally available in America, and on Blu-ray, is simply fantastic.

Hulu is offering a 1 month free trial of Hulu-Plus to users of Internet Explorer 9. All you need to do is use the new "pinning system" to pin Hulu on your taskbar.

The free trial sounds great, but they need your Credit Card info, which will be charged $7.99 after the trial.

The more disturbing thing about the Hulu offer is that it is limited to IE9 users.

Aside from the fact that IE is one of the worst web browsers available, it isn't even OFFERED on Apple computers... so basically every Mac user is being screwed on this deal.

Try to take advantage of the Criterion streaming now...as it will go away by the end of this year. Criterion will be dealing with Hulu Plus exclusively, as far as streaming.

for anyone looking to expand their film library, this book of Dave Kehr essays has been given a paperback reprint with some additions apparently.
It certainly has an appropriate title if one has seen much of what Hollywood offers these days--
When Movies Mattered.

ah crap. Not so thrilled by that news. Well, that just means I have an excuse to stop marathoning South Park and return to something a bit more intellectual. haha.
