I was hoping Black Narcissus would drop.

However The Makioka Sisters Blu-ray for $19, it's $36 in pre-sales in Canada, I might just order it from the USA

BTW, it looks like 3 Eclipse sets are on sale. From what I can see; 8, 25 and 26 are all on sale and under $26.

Just when I thought I was finally going to catch up on my Criterions before the next B&N sale, this happens. Dammit.

Also, in the next few days I'm planning to watch Lola Montes. Is there a reason that this isn't talked about very often in this thread? I watched the first little bit of it last night, and it seems very good, and I thought the transfer looked good as well, but this is coming from a guy who is NOT particularly picky about transfers.

Can anyone help me regarding customs/taxes etc? I'm in the UK and I was wondering what would be safe to get...what are the chances of customs/whoever letting it slip though?

Yojimbo & Sanjuro - £17.59
Au revoir les enfants - £12.13
8 1/2 - £10.61
Sweet Smell of Success - £11.22

Plus £4.09 in postage.

It's a shame that you have to pay 11$ basic shipping fee for any order delivered to Canada + about 12$ import fees for a 4-movie order. It builds up to about 25$ per movie which isn't even a real bargain.

Very nice sale, maybe i'd rather wait for one of these next time instead of buying the films when they are released... I already have almost everything that's on sale

Happy to get Blow-Out for 18,99 though

And for all of you who still don't have it, Le Samourai DVD is on the sale for 13,99. Go for it !

Great Sale. Went with Armacord, Kes, and Blow Out.

I'd recommend Fish Tank, Modern Times, Double life of Veronique for those on the fence about some titles.

It is when those same movies are 35 dollars plus on Canadian Amazon, and even higher in stores like HMV, Future Shop, and Best Buy. It's not so bad with the dollar sitting at 1.04-1.05. Even with the shipping and import fee, my Criterion order I did last week was still 25 dollars less than if I had gone to the Canadian site and ordered them with free shipping. I'm only mad that I'm paying an extra 7.50 for The Sweet Smell of Success, and that I don't have more spare money at the momen to get Paths of Glory, considering that it's 37.99 on Amazon Canada's site.

I second that. And it's not that easy, so to say, to find a movie that sucks in the collection.

I rarely buy from Amazon Canada. Their prices are pretty "meh". I usually buy my Crits off eBay or from members of different forums.

I own one! A Safe Place is borderline horrible, but at the same time, it's like the first time ever this film has been put on home media, and the rest of the box set it's in, The BBS America Lost and Found set, more than makes up for it. The transfer is top notch, it's just the film is so self-indulgent and boring. Tuesday Weld's character annoys me so much in this film. Jack Nicholson is awesome as usual though. I would kill for Criterion to do a release of Tuesday's better film, Lord Love a Duck.

I never really began buying Blu-Rays, let alone Criterions, until recently, and found Amazon had some good prices on some items. They're cheaper than Chapter-Indigo on a lot of things. I was also under the impression that Amazon US stopped shipping to Canada after the Canadian site went up, until I came to this forum.

Also got Seven Samurai to go along with Chungking Express

Man, those Amazon prices are tempting. I SOOOO have almost bought Sweet Smell of Success and Pre-Ordered Blow Out before. So glad I didn't. Might have to pick those up with Far and Loathing

From Criterion's site...

Adrian Tomine's Ozu Prints on Sale

Quote:
Good news for admirers of Adrian Tomine’s simply gorgeous illustrations for the Criterion two-DVD special edition of Yasujiro Ozu’s The Only Son and There Was a Father: the artist has joined forces with art and literary comics publisher Drawn & Quarterly to offer these elegant, poignant designs in new limited-edition prints (only fifty of each). And even better, it’s for a great cause: the proceeds will go to the Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund. These two giclée prints, signed and numbered by the artist go on sale at noon on Wednesday, April 27, for $250 each; all orders will include a small, personalized original sketch by Tomine.

Ordered Senso and Blow Out.

You guys should hurry because some of the titles are already back at their regular price.
