Yeah, I think The Blob is a great movie, and as far as important films, it definitely fits in the collection. But hey, we all have different tastes

I think more people were puzzled by Equinox being put on Criterion than The Blob. The Blob is the quintessential 50's monster flick, and in that way it is important and relevant, not to mention it being Steve McQueen's first starring role.

I'd buy The Blob on Criterion blu. Equinox... I may stick with the fantastic DVD set they did.

What seems to be the least common or most rare Criterion blu-ray aprt from The Third Man, The Man Who Fell to Earth and Pierrot Le Fou?

Also, what is the least rare out of the above mentioned three?

The least rare seems to be Pierrot Le Fou, but I only gauge this by the price that it fetches online. PLF is much cheaper than the other two

Always liked The Blob, but after listening to the commentary on this disc, and hearing what he did to his dog, I find it hard to view McQueen in the same light and it's tarnished my enjoyment of any of his films.

I got my Yojimbo/Sanjuro set at full price and don't regret it all. At this price, everyone should get it.

I just finished watching Broadcast News and I am blown away at how funny that movie was. When it was first announced I didn’t know what this movie was about (and I still didn’t when I bought it) and it wasn’t a movie I was going to buy. I was playing Scene It the movie edition with a few of my friends about a week ago and one of the scenes they showed was from Broadcast News and I thought it was funny so I took a chance and boy was I glad I did absolutely wonderful film. I’m just waiting for Blow Out and Sweet Smell of Success which should arrive tomorrow.

Blu- worst released so far has to be Monsoon Wedding...have no idea why it's in the collection.

DVD-The Night Porter, The Blob, Jubilee, there's a bunch more that I didn't care for, but these are the three coming to mind.

Why are you attacking me personally with your comments. Monsoon Wedding was enjoyable. At least that is my opinion, which I will defend to the death.

Monsoon Wedding is a phenomenal flick and all of the short films with it are quite good as well...
Most people consider it to be an incredible experience and a great snapshot of a culture most of us don't get to experience.
That's probably why it's in the collection.

I agree 100%...we often don't hear it talked about much on these threads, much like some of the other IFC films.

Secret of the Grain, A Christmas Tale, Summer Hours, Monsoon Wedding, Gomorrah, and now Still Walking and Fish Tank are all very good movies and can stand the argument of why they were chosen for the CC. Yea CC made a deal which included a lot of these films, many of which are questioned from time to time, but they can all stand on their own as offering something new and interesting to the collection.

I would have loved to see The Human Centipede in there, just for shock value alone...but it would probably be one of those "questionable" titles for most people. It was an IFC film, btw.

The Sweet Smell of Success and the upgrade to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas are 100% worth it! Still have to watch Charade.

HC was nothing but shock value. It had nothing else to offer to stand the test of time.
