Usually it is because a customer complained about either the packaging or such. I would bet there is nothing wrong with your copy. I've watched my copy several times.

I did, but for some reason they sent me this long email:

Unfortunately, our reliance on suppliers and manufacturers for information about their stock means that, occasionally, our database will not reflect all changes. The estimated shipment date given for this order was originally May 13, 2011 and the delivery date is May 17, 2011 however, it was moved due to the availability of the item.

Please be assured that we are trying all the possibilities to obtain the item from our suppliers. I assure you that once we get the item from our suppliers, you will be sent the item on priority.

To help compensate you for this unexpected change, I upgraded the shipping method to One day shipping at no additional shipping charge.

The new order detail of your order is:

Shipment #1: 2 items planned to ship on May 23, 2011
Delivery Estimate: May 24, 2011

It will be shipped along with the item, The Great Dictator: The Criterion Collection (Blu-ray) which is set to be released on May 24, 2011.

Please be assured that we'll take necessary measures to make sure that in future such inconvenience is not caused to you. Your patience and understanding in this regard would be highly appreciable.

I hope that you will consider this error as just an aberration and give us another chance to serve you better.

Then amazon.com should update the listing to just state you can order the item and they will notify when more stock is in type of message.

If you have amazon PRIME and are willing to pay the 3.99 extra I would test it out and see if a new order goes thru. If it does it will change to status shipping soon within usually 10-15 mins.

Also agree Kes is a great film, but probably made me cry more than any other film in my adult life. Brutal.
Yes, it was very powerful. And all the more so because it was so restrained. No soaring orchestras, no lingering soulful close-ups, no painfully obvious points, no poignant one-liners whose only purpose is to make absolutely sure you get those painfully obvious points.

It was very impressive visually as well and even there it was very restrained.
[Show spoiler]Making the meadow where they flew the only patch of real color in the entire area was very effective and again, all the more so because he didn't club us over the head with it. It wasn't a technicolor, Wizard of Oz green...it was just grass. And it worked.

The more I think about it the more I like it.

I did pay with a gift card. It's a tough call though.

My copy of "Diabolique" is in the Shipping Soon process. I didn't pay with a gift card, though, and I have Prime. It would seem a bit silly if paying with a gift card is what's holding up your order.

I have a feeling that if I didn't order this along with The Great Dictator months ago that I wouldn't be having this problem. That's why they're deciding to ship it with that movie next week. Well, I don't have Prime or anything, so if I cancelled my Diabolique, and re-ordered it to be here Tuesday, it would be $38, which I do not want to do.

U need to put Diabolique on a different order. It is because Great Dictator is on the sane order and u may not have chosen ship items as they become available instead of together.

I'm about to watch "The Red Shoes" fr the first time. I just watched the brief restoration segment with Scorsese. I can tell I'm going to be blown away by the picture quality.

I just watched blow out for the first time through netflix. I think it is one of the most underrated movies of all time. I regret not buying it when it was 18 bucks

I wish I could go back and watch The Red Shoes for the first time. The PQ is quite stunning for a film of its age.

I emailed Amazon again about the situation, and they split the orders separately, so it says I'm receiving Diabolique on Tuesday, as planned. Hopefully that's now taken care of.

I have a question about amazon and their shipping policy. From what I have gathered reading here it seems that they have the ability to ship Criterion product out several days early, hence the "get it by the release date" ads. But, if you select free shipping they never ship before (and sometimes even after) the street date. What is the deal here? Are they attempting to con people into paying for additional shipping charges?

Can anyone suggest a US e-retailer that has comparable prices and gets you your product on or before the street date. I have used dvdempire before, but only when I can find coupons or sales to keep their prices at amazon levels. (They usually get the Criterion BD to you by the street date with free shipping)

PlanetAxel usually gets you the order earlier than the street date.

I wouldn't say their prices are comparable to Amazon, though.

True, but I guess you have to pay a little extra if you want your item earlier.

I have the Prime membership and this is what Amazon says about receiving a movie on its release date...

Quote:
Want to receive this the day it comes out?
Select FREE Two-Day Shipping at checkout.
So, because I have Prime the "Free Two-Day Shipping" is always set as my default. If you're not a Prime member, though, I don't think you're guaranteed the release date shipment unless you pay the extra money. Simply selecting regular ol' "free shipping" during checkout isn't going to guarantee you anything on the release date, I wouldn't think. Amazon's regular "free shipping" is usually 3-5 days, isn't it?

I watched Blow Out today but I thought it only average. I found myself deconstructing the plot as I sat there, and being too ticked off with the numerous holes in the story. Tomorrow night is Double Life of Veronique and Tuesday evening it will be Sweet Smell of Success.

Thanks for the info. I will have to consider becoming a Prime member then as it's a bit of bummer waiting several days past tuesday to get your pre-orders.
