Getting back to topic.

Would anyone like to see Criterion do more music Blu-rays? Perhaps they could get rights to some Beatles properties?
This. We have yet to see a real release of Let it Be since VHS. I'd like to see them do some Neil Young and Zappa too. Maybe the Rutles, since they let Spinal Tap go, and I doubt they'll take it back. I doubt there's anything left of PHil Ochs on video, but I would kill for it.

As opposed to a single one (and yes, I know that 1 is a number, but the phrase is pretty standard)...

I'm just giving you a hard time...we all have our pet peeves, and I fully appreciate people who have grammar pet peeves (as one of the aforementioned English teachers).

As for your point about music releases, I would love to see Stop Making Sense. Even though it has already been released I would think it is more likely than anything from the Beatles. Aren't the rights to the Beatles stuff held pretty tightly?

Well I would do a lot better in my native tongue,

mais je suis pas certain que mes messages vont etre tres bien compris par la plupart des membres de ce merveilleux forum

Thus I have to use my imperfect English and face the humiliation of being corrected once in a while

I'd LOVE to see ALL of the Beatles albums released as blu-ray/5.1/7.1 mixes.

Film-wise...I'd like to see "A Hard Days Night", but doubt that will happen. I think the only film with a decent shot on Criterion might be "Yellow Submarine", as it's an MGM release.

"Help!" is still privately non-studio owned by Capitol/AppleCorps (and thus fair game for Criterion negotiations), isn't it?--Who put out that restored DVD a while ago?

This is something from 67' in 16mm. The Warhol Foundation I believe is restoring it. I highly doubt alot of people has seen the footage.

But to answer your question, the last time the original line-up played together is in 1992, then broke up again, while also Morrison passed away. Then in public, without Cale, they came together in 09' (Reed, Tucker and Doug Yule, who replaced Cale after White Light/White Heat). Other than that, Reed is just doing things here and there, and hopefully one day, he makes another rock album.

I believe so, there is a 22 min version on the net.

Here is a 13 min one (I love this site it's got Godard's Dziga Vertov Group films and some Garrel films):

That'd be awesome.

This may be unrelated but Amazon UK is showing September 12, 2011 release dates for the Beatles catalog on Vinyl.

Its more of a Police procedural than anything else with a solid lead performance. I love it cause it's a rare time that Kurosawa shows us the darker side of his mind up until Ran.

For those who said Yellow Submarine, I totally agree! It's in my top 3 favourite movies of all time, behind Head (Which Criterion was so nice to put on Blu-Ray for me) and A Mighty Wind (WB probably wouldn't share any of the Christopher Guest/Castle Rock films with Criterion, because they would be perfect). I've been looking around to see if a release is out yet to upgrade my DVD copy; it was the second DVD I ever owned, first I ever bought myself. I have the Dreadful Flying Glove and the Chief Blue Meanie action figures sitting on my desk at work actually. I'm only missing Ringo and the Sub, as they were sold out when I found George, Paul, and John in the "discount bin," and I've never been able to find them.

Blow Out's back from Amazon, and it's now 19 bucks. A few other Criterions took a slight dip, those that were 25.99 are now 23.99. Monterey Pop was the only one with a significant price drop or 20 bucks or so.

The only drawback for us non-Primeys is you've got to spend another $2 for free shipping.
I pay shipping regardless, as I don't think Prime is applicable to Canadians, also I don't think 80 bucks a year is a justifiable expense.

Personally I wish Canadian Amazon was more competitively priced with the American one, as they're just as expensive as Chapters/Indigo, or only a dollar or two less on some items. There's the odd item that's significantly less than Chapters, or even the American site, but it's far and few. It's sad when it's cheaper for me to order from the states, pay shipping and an import tax, and still pay 20-30 dollars less than if I were to buy it in my own country with free shipping. Not only is the price higher, but I also have to pay 7% GST on top of that. Sorry for the rant.

Thanks for the link.

Great article, and I agree with Joe Dalek. £100,000 seems much, much to low for a discovery such as this. Perhaps closer to a couple million $ for THAT film. I mean, this isn't just an old film. This is a piece of film history, literally, that has been missing. I think the value was just being guessed at though, as the article stated it was to be put up for sale at an auction.

Seems weird to me that an auction is becoming the fate of this film. I feel that it should go to a major film preservation/restoration team to be cleaned, repaired, and restored for release on Criterion BD. Seriously though, it should go to SOME film archive/preservation group. With it just being auctioned off, any wealthy eccentric could purchase this and take it home to use as firewood! Would this ever happen? Probably not, but with the film being auctioned off...anything could happen to it. Let's hope that who ever ends up with it will do it justice.

Oh, how I would love to be the guy who discovered that reel of film.

*heads off to ebay to find next missing rare film*
