Great service over at B&N.

I don't wanna sound impatient but what is there to update? Just send me the right product and I'll send back the wrong one... You've got my money and I've got nothing. *sigh*

I just watched 8 1/2 via Netflix streaming. It was just so, so delightful. The dream sequences, quirky old people, and all the little things came together so well. Not that this really has to do with anything, but I can definitely see where David Lynch was influenced.

Are all of Fellini's movies like....this? 8 1/2 has a very certain way about it that I find quite enjoyable, but have a hard time putting into words. It hit my special spot all right.

Anyway, does anyone know where Netflix got the streaming rights from? They've got the Criterion cover up, but the movie is letterboxed and looks to have never been cleaned. Screenshots of Criterion's source almost look completely different.

Awesome. Glad I'm not the only one excited although in this thread I appear to be.

'The White Shadow' cool name. I think the coolest thing about this kind of news is it gives hope for people
that some missing films may someday come to light.
Unearthing 'early treasures' is usually more interesting than exciting.

Then again, I'm not a huge early Hitchcock fan to begin with. For me, even things like The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes have a 'not quite there' feel to them. Earlier stuff (for instance Blackmail or The Man Who Knew Too Much) has a sort of academic appeal but doesn't exactly get the blood pumping.

I like Rebecca (going to get crapped on for that), but I agree, Hitchcock's later films are far more interesting to me. I enjoy Family Plot, Bruce Dern and Barbara Harris are spectacular.

Still waiting for Naked, Repulsion, Yojimbo/Sanjuro, and Zazie dans le metro. I also didn't get my Amazon order today like I was supposed to. Ugh.

I love Rebecca. One of my favorite theater experiences was seeing Rebecca at the beautiful Paramount theater in Oakland California about ten years ago.

Rebecca is very well thought of. To me it pretty much marks the start of the 'real' Hitchcock (which I readily admit up front is a pretty silly and arbitrary thing to be marking in the first place) and he did some of his best work in the 40s.

So I still haven't received any of my packages that shipped between the 17th-19th from Barnes and Noble, this is getting a little annoying.

Yes, but if you want to see a doctor here, you're lucky if it takes three months. And if it's an emergency, make it 8 hours.

That's exactly how I feel too, to be honest. Not to knock thearly stuff, but I like 19400 onward.

Touche Joe Dalek, touche. We have cheaper drugs too. The health care system isn't too bad IMHO, it could be a lot worse.

I'm off to watch The Naked Kiss.

I was wondering, what if any chance F.W. Murnau's Faust has of being released by Criterion. They have been doing a few silent films of late.

Kino has it, which is still good news.

Unless you're very wealthy you'll be waiting just as long here. Last visit to the hospital I spent 4-5 hours waiting.

I got my final shipment from B&N today. Opened up Beauty and the Beast and the disc isn't there. Anyone else ever have this happen? The case was wrapped well and in good shape, as was the booklet, just no movie. Oh well, I'm sure Criterion will make it up.

I've never had that happen to me. I have bought a movie and received a totally different film in the case. That sucks that you'll have to wait, but Criterion should def. make it right, from what I hear.

Ya, this last shipment was 6 Blu's. And Beauty and the Beast was the first one I was going to watch. Oh well, I have around 100 Criterion films and this is the first to ever arrive in this shape.

Seems odd that Barnes isn't the one to blame in this situation.

Don't know if B&N is to blame, but I would definitely start with them in getting this rectified.

Don't worry, my first copy of Beauty And The Beast from B&N was missing the disc, as well. This stuff happens. It's not like there are people inserting each disc into a case by hand. All it took was a simple exchange for a new copy at B&N the next day and everything in the world was in alignment once again.

Thanks for the info. Guess it's a problem with this particular film then. Unfortunately my local B&N physical stores do not sell any movies. So I'm not sure how I could go about getting a new copy. I already e-mailed Mulvaney at Criterion.com to see what he has to say.
