Rules of the Game is a well made film, but I didn't like it the first time I watched it (and still prefer to rewatch Grand Illusion) because every character in Rules of the Game is detestable.

Just my $0.02

Just a heads up but Dazed and Confused is going to be on HDnet movies in about an hour. If you somehow you haven't seen it, do yourself and favor a watch it!

Pigs and Battleships has been sitting in my Amazon UK basket for a while, but I've been holding off in the hope that Criterion upgrades it.
However, it's packaged with a film called Stolen Desire, whereas Criterion's old DVD package has it with The Insect Woman and Intentions of Murder. If Criterion upgrades, who knows which package would be best to get.
I haven't seen any of them, but would happily blind-buy the lot

I think you should be safe in ordering those UK DVDs if you want them. I honestly don't see Criterion releasing that much films outside of the usual American, French, Japanese, German, Italian films in the near future. It's been rare.

Great news about The Rules of the Game, one of my most-desired upgrades.
I never bought the Criterion DVD, so I've been hoping for an upgrade soon.
One of my all-time favourites

Gonna watch Killer's Kiss now. I would rate the PQ of The Killing a 4.5/5. It looks excellent.
I have a Panasonic player (BD80) as well and there isn't a dedicated subtitle button (which really annoys me).
I have to use the on-screen display button, which brings up various audio and subtitle options. Give that a try...

I like the player so far. It's not fancy, but it has performed flawlessly and played every region A BD I have. (very nice after all the problems I have been through with my Sony BDP 360)

And I bought mine for $23 after my old Panasonic-60 broke. What can I say, the price was right.

I've watched about 50 blus on it so far and only had a little bit of trouble with Universal's Casino blu-ray (five or six minute loading time).

As rkish pointed out, I was able to toggle the subtitles and adjust other audio/video options of which I was never aware while watching Army of Shadows just now. I really crave some more Melville on blu... His cinematography was made for high def.

I have the DMP-BD65 myself. I've yet to have a problem with it. My remote is identical to yours as well. I figured out the subtitle thing accidentally, and some what quickly, just by playing around with buttons when I first got it. I've had nary an issue with it, except when I tried to play a PAL DVD. That's why I have the cheapass Seiki as a second BD player, so I can play region Bs and PAL DVDs.

Just finished Chungking Express: chalk up one more on the Fanstastic Freaking Criterion Blind Buy list.

The first half was absolutely excellent but I completely fell head-over-heels in love with the second half. Two thoughts kept running through my head...

*If John Cussack had watched this a few times he could have saved making five or ten or fifty mediocre movies and maybe made an actual good one.

*I guess 500 Days of Summer wasn't quite as edgy and fresy as I'd first though and was in fact more than a little retro.

Make it three thoughts - where the hell have I heard that Cantonese/Mandarin/whatever warbling pop song before. Some other movie or movies (and not particularly good ones but don't hold me to that) have featured either that same song or an Americanized version of it.

It's a Cantonese cover of the song Dreams by The Cranberries.

I don't know what you mean by just announced, as that was originally released by Criterion nearly 2 years ago. The last time Criterion released a DVD in the main spine set that was not also on BR was last August. Since then every new film added was on BR.

Wish Criterion would just post their announcements today since they practically have announced possibly half of their slate. It would be funny if they did to throw everyone off.

Changed my signature two months ago and I've been able to check one title off each month since. I'm hoping I get to continue that trend.

I have a mid-tier Panasonic (no wi-fi). Casino is the ONE film of the well over 100 of blu-rays I've viewed that has given me any problems whatsoever. Mine actually wouldn't load at all (I must have waited 10 minutes, it's just a blank screen and I can't get to the menu either). Sounds like there's possibly an issue with this disc.

I had no problems playing it on my PS3 so didn't return it, but because it's literally just this one movie out of hundreds obviously something isn't quite right. I wonder if it's just isolated to Panasonic's or other standalone have problem playing it? It could be a matter of a firmware update, but even if it is firmware it's odd that literally this one title is incompatible when hundreds of others are fine...
