I guarantee their are many more people who dislike the Goddard films they release, but because he's considered art-house we don't question those releases. There will always be at least one film in the batch that each individual doesn't like. But the bandwagon effect Wes Anderson creates is absurd. He has a LONG history with that company and a great many people DO like his films. The only issue everyone has with them are their release dates.

They were made in the last decade, Yuck!

I have never understood this argument. The Godfather I/II, TGTBATU, Pulp Fiction, Casablanca, 12 Angry Men, Schindler's List, Cuckoo's Nest, Seven Samurai, Goodfellas, Star Wars, Casablanca, City of God, Rear Window, Vertigo, Psycho, North by Northwest, Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now, Silence of the Lambs, Sunset Blvd, Citizen Kane, Dr. Strangelove, Taxi Driver, Alien, M, Lawrence of Arabia, The Third Man, Chinatown, etc. etc. etc.

Let me skip down toward 200-250 and see what I find:
Network, 8 1/2, 400 Blows, Battle of Algiers, The Killing, The Hustler, La Strada, Persona, Diving Bell & the Butterfly, The Exorcist, Wild Bunch, Fanny and Alexander, Passion of Joan of Arc, Barry Lyndon, All Quiet on the Western Front, Sherlock Jr., Nights of Cabiria, Rosemary's Baby, Ed Wood, Manhattan, Patton, Rope, Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Grand Illusion, Tokyo Story, Duck Soup, etc. etc. etc.

Man, IMDB's list doesn't get anything correct. It is clearly not a list on which you would find great films.

Its comedic how people generally miss the point of the whole Wes Anderson discussion. Folks, all the Anderson films people are talking about and have to have, ARE ALREADY AVAILABLE ON DVD THROUGH CRITERION... That has been the point for years in this discussion. I know many of the newer forum users do not have the history on the initial discussion, as there are too many pages to go back and read. Why would people not feel frustrated when, like I said, Anderson films are already available to buy on a perfectly good quality DVD release, and many other films are to never see a Criterion, let alone any quality release...

The ironic thing I read is the 'film snob' comment. Actually wanting 'your release' on a higher format is the definition of a snob. All these people are saying that Criterions initial release is 'not good enough'.. Isn't that the definition of a snob???

Why are they releasing Rules of the Game and Wild Strawberries on blu-ray? There are already perfectly acceptable DVD releases of these films, and we already have some Bergman on blu-ray.

PS, I hope they don't release any more Kurosawa on blu-ray because his entire catalog has already been released by Criterion.

So why didn't the sky fall when Fear & Loathing or Dazed & Confused were announced?
[Show spoiler](both of which are already on CC dvd as well as an other blu ray release)
If you ask me (you didn't) Rushmore is a better film than either. In fact, should I be angry that I should have had Rushmore already but these two movies stole its place?!? TWICE!!!

No, 'cause that would be dumb.

I wanted to see how quickly this type of response would be posted. I was not disappointed... wilky, the point is about Anderson not any other director that Criterion has released and frankly if you are comparing his work to Renoir, Bergman or Kurosawa from the terms of merit and influence, you are wasting your keystrokes...

Agreed. People want films on the best release possible, otherwise why the hell should anyone buy Brazil, Fear and Loathing, The Third Man, and whatever else on Criterion? Be it DVD or BD, they are usually synonym with top quality movie releases. Blu-ray is inarguably the better format, so why the hell should people be banned from wanting to get their movies at the best quality possible?

"Hey, man. Criterion already released it on VHS, why the hell do people want it on Blu-ray?"

Edit: Also, no one is comparing anyone in terms of anything. And that is precisely the point. If there's an audience for the product, no matter who does or doesn't like it, it's pretty ridiculous to complain about the fact that it's available. Movies that you do like and others don't will come in time.

AGAIN, the discussion is about Anderson. His entire catalog is basically already released on DVD through Criterion...

Idgaf about influence but how much enjoyment I get out of watching the films. I like Rushmore more than any Renoir/Bergman/Kurosawa film (except for maybe Persona, which isn't CC anyway).

Rushmore is the only Anderson film i liked. At least is it out of the way so criterion can now release more Kurosawa on blu.

As you should and have proudly commented, but yet again going back to the original discussion, you already have Andersons entire catalog out on Criterion. What about releasing the hundreds of other films that Criterion could 'discover' wilky, you never know, but you may find a more enjoyable film than Rushmore out there... It can happen...

Only when people get douchey about the release schedule or have beefs against certain directors that are favored by Criterion.

I was just trying to stress a point, but you're right. I should've gone with "LaserDisc".

No, this "discussion" is apparently about you complaining about Anderson. And you ignoring the points you apparently can't respond to.

Your point is that Criterion like the guy's movies and releases one of them in some way less than once a year or so?

That's the crux of it right? THAT is your point?

that list is as boring as that fruitloop who posted that Ben Stiller pic before you. Funny you also kept out the crap that is voted #1 in a week of it's release.

What points are you refering to? Any point that was directed toward me, I have responded to. Intelligently and legibly I might add...Also, your reading skills must be lacking, as I have never complained about Anderson's movies once in any of my posts. His quality of films was not my point, but yet again, that they are already available from Criterion...
