I did that with "High and Low"

Cost me $3 to send the "Oops" copy back to Amazon..... but I had to go to UPS anyways to ship out another package, so no added "hassle"

hopefully Criterion will have "Lanton Mills", Malick's short film included as an extra.

I've got my eye on the Postwar Kurosawa Eclipse set as well. I might pick it up during the next B&N sale.
Are the transfers okay?

As for The Apartment on DVD - I think it looks stellar, at least on the currently available DVD. Perhaps, Arkadin, you are referring to the earlier DVD release from MGM - I think it was redone for the current release. In any case, this movie should be on bluray - it may be Wilder's finest moment, and one of Jack Lemmon's best performances. A perfect movie.

Sorry about bring up this thread's favorite discussion topic again, but I found this gem of a book on amazon and thought some of you might get a giggle out of this.

[Show spoiler]
http://www.amazon.com/Wes-Anderson-Movies-Matter-Filmmakers/dp/1598843524
Reading the reviews, it's apparent that the title is misleading too, as the author seem to dwell on reasons he thought the movies failed, compete with misquotes, memory lapses, and grammatical errors. Did one of you guys write this book?

Only one Wilder on Blu-ray is embarrassing.

Let's hope the studios get the ball rolling so we can at least see Double Indemnity,Sunset Boulevard, The Apartment, The Lost Weekend, etc.

Criterion will release Ace in the Hole in the next year, imo.

If it's from Kurosawa and in Criterion Bluray, I'd grab it. But I'm done buying DVD's.

Totally floored to see Rushmore is on the way; as well as Fanny and Alexander. Here I thought it might be a while till they announced something I wanted again.
Just when I feel like I've caught up and can leave Amazon alone for a bit, Criterion adds more to the pile. It's a wait till November though.

I would say my top favorite Criterion blu-rays (was going to do a top 5, but noticed you already have my top 2, so I will go to 7).

Seven Samurai
Yojombo/Sanjuro
Pale Flower
Paths of Glory
Seventh Seal
The Sweet Smell of Success.
Repulsion
High and Low

As far as what I do with them, of course I open them and watch them all. It makes no sense to buy the blu-ray, and then actually watch the film in some other format leaving the blu-ray unopened.

EDIT: and i just noted all my recommendations are B&W films. that was purely unconscious, but I wonder if there's something to it?
Seeing as how we both enjoy Kurosawa's films, Ill go ahead and scope out those other movies that you recommended. Thanks

So you basically pay top dollars for Blu-rays and then watch the movies on another format? I've seen some extreme collecting habits here, but this...

I would only do that if I were rich and could afford to buy two copies of each movie, one to watch and one to store away unopened.
