I don't see Fanny and Alexander coming down much from $41.
B&N could potentially have a sale then, so it could be under 25. I'm waiting closer to Nov, before I do any pre-orders on the Nov. titles in case B&N does indeed have their second 50% off sale. 12 Angry Men is so tempting to pre-order though.

Five Graves shows up on TCM very regularly. ...and pretty sure that Fedora was on TCM, MGMHD or some other HD movie channel at some point... I think.

You sure do know a lot about gloves...

But both work very well at preventing fingerprints from marring treasured collections of any sort. Discs, books, packages, etc.

I'm sure you've noticed that, no matter how clean your hands are, certain types of printing and surfaces attract fingerprints (Alien Anthology, anyone? Any surface with a lot of black, etc.). Such gloves are a highly effective way to combat them and I wear them every time I handle such deluxe blu-ray packages, including all my Criterions.

Wear the gloves and eliminate the shrink wrapping.

I usually pre-order them and cancel later if they're included in BN sale.

I'd suggest a clean sterile enclosed room with level 4 laser sanitizers to destroy bacteria on your suit and gloves while entering. I like my room to be a complete vacuum devoid of air. Just make sure your oxygen mask is full before going in to flip through your Criterion collection. Ha Won't make that mistake again.. Also lighting can eventually fade the color on the cases especially the cardboard Digipacks. So I suggest a low band infrared lighting system as well or just leave it dark and use a small flashlight that emits very little light. Don't forget to also pack a few thousand pounds of Silica into the room to absorb moisture.

Its less about the studio's now then the share holders. Its not enough to try and make a artistic work of art that will last and makes a small profit. Its about making millions upon millions and once a type of film does that its genre is milked until the public can't stand it anymore.

When you look back in time and see all the cheesy movie fads that don't hold up you realize someday we will do the same with all of these super action CGI movies. Very few titles stand the test of time. And fad movies and their countless sequels rarely do.

I think this is ridiculous that it isn't. I have the thing on PAL VHS when it was on sale at Woolworths YEARS ago.

Would love to see it get some better treatment.

Why will it never be released?

Snagged The Red Shoes, Blow Out, & Paths of Glory from walmart.com.

Used a 20$ giftcard. 40$ for 3 Criterions ain't too shabby.

If I lived in the states, I would buy from them, as some of their prices are better than Amazon by 2-3 bucks:

http://www.walmart.com/search/search...h_constraint=0

Alas, I'm Canadian. Canadian Walmart only just began selling their stuff online. So lame.

Wow, Canadian Wal-Mart "sells" 7 different Criterions on their site. However, they're all out of stock, and are 49.43 each, with Night of the Hunter being the only one that's more. It's 60.23. What a bloody rip-off, even they actually were in stock, considering that half of those titles are about 20 bucks or so on Amazon US right now.

I remember paying like 80$ for the DVD set when it came out.

I'm very happy to see a release date for 12 Angry Man. This will be the second Criterion movie I will own.

Way to controvertial and dangerous for Disney, plus DIsney would never allow someone else, even Criterion to release one of their movies. In the case of this movie, hang on to your VHS cause you may never see it again.

Yami also recently posted in the International Forum that Marketa Lazarova is getting a Blu European release. I'd bet (just a hunch) that with Janus now having it, that it sees a Criterion release within a year. To top it off, I just ordered the Vlacil Region 2 SDVD Boxset, so that should assure a release .

On a not so good note...the box set was released by Second Run, which was one of the companies warehoused at the Sony distribution center in London. Hopefully it is not going to be affected by this, but Amazon UK is showing a 1 to 2 month wait for it.
It is available through other sites for the moment.

Hmm... did I step in something?

Watched the Killing last night. Loved the movie, but couldn't stand the narration. I guess it was intended, but some of the narration was so self explanatory it came off as being a sarcastically dry humorous poke at traditional narrative conventions more then trying to narrate the action. Atleast that is the feeling I got.

Agreed. Supposedly a theater in Paris played Mr Smith around the clock after the Nazis occupied Paris in '40

And I'd add The Naked Spur to your list!

Anyone know what other stores outside of B&N and Borders sell Criterion? The other day I was surprised to see one copy of Solaris at Best Buy, but that's been it.

You are likely to find them at a lot of smaller, independently-owned, book and movie stores. I was at "Politics and Prose" in Washington DC (an wonderful little bookstore that you should visit if you are ever there) and they had a pretty hefty Criterion collection...not many blu-rays, though.
