If it's not Almodovar's "Matador", maybe it's the "The Matador" with Pierce Brosnan. Also, when I searched "Matador" on IMDB, it brought up John Woo's "The Killer." I wouldn't think the Weinstein's would give up that title, but that would be a great re-release.

She can be seen wearing an outfit quite similar to that one of the bull in the hint. I can only hope .
Some people have suggested Talk to Her, which features a pretty similar outfit. The problem is that many bullfighting outfits look pretty similar, so it makes it hard to narrow it down.

Yeah, I know I am really trying to convince myself about it ! I mean, if there is a single director I would put in the Collection it must be Almodovar because of how he has been kind of overlooked (I know this is not neccesarily because CC doesn't want to but because of rights) even thought I consider him one of the most important figures of current Spanish cinema. Love his style and complex narratives, his films are also really colorful so they will come beautiful in BD. One can only hope I guess, but he has been on the top of my list for quite some time .

Anyone else think that Tim Burton deserves a spot in the collection? I think Ed Wood would be something criterion would release that he has done.

I wonder if the bull has to do with the infamous slaughterhouse documentary 'Blood of the Beast' included on the dvd of 'Eyes Without a Face'. A long shot, but that would be an incredible December release of the two.

Ed Wood is the only movie of his that I think would deserve it. I think Burton makes great looking bad movies.

After avoiding his movies for a while, I went and saw Alice In Wonderland, and it confirmed what I've thought about Burton for a long time.

I will put Big Fish on my netflix queue right now.

I've thought a lot about this (not because of the bull, but in general), and I think the real reason Criterion has not answered the pleas to re-release this is because they can't find decent-enough materials. Sure, what they had/have looks fine on a 4:3 CRT (the intended viewing medium), but customers are now more discerning than ever, and I don't think Criterion can find (or get access to) elements to create a suitable new anamorphic DVD, let alone a Blu-ray. I hope I'm proven wrong though and a European label releases a decent BD mastered from an HD or film source--either way, I highly doubt you will see the film back in the Collection again.

Even though I agree with you as far as Burton being more about the visuals than the overall quality of films, Alice is probably his worst. I've enjoyed a couple of his movies, like Edward Scissorhands or the Batman films he did, but his recent output has been fairly terrible. Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... all really, really bad.

Ed Wood is really the only Criterion-esque film of his, I'd say. I do think Big Fish is well above his average fare.

Corpse Bride? That's a fun one. I like all of those actually. Not calling them the pinnacle of cinema, but they're fun flicks. Better than Avatar and Transformers anyway.

That's my friend's favourite. I've been hesitant to check it out because everyone keeps saying it's like 3 Women, and I wasn't too fussy about that particular Altman. Perhaps I will enjoy this one more because it came first.

I'm still standing by my impossible dream that Criterion is releasing The Bobo on Blu-Ray. Peter Sellers is a blue singing matador, trying to woo Britt Eklund. It's a one of his more obscure films.

Oh, they're certainly better than those, but that's not saying much, right? Anyway, I do not like those films at all, but most of his earlier films do entertain me. He's certainly not the best filmmaker in the universe, but I do like some of his films. I used to be a bigger fan, though. They haven't aged that well for me.

That's a good description of how I feel. I used to really like some of his older movies, but when I've watched them more recently, they just leave me feeling kind of

The only Burtons I really dislike are Mars attacks and Planet of the Apes. Plant of the Apes is his worst, not alice. Or is it so bad that you forgot about it? The newer ones still entertain me, although I do feel like Burton has put himself into a bit of a rut, with casting Depp and Bonham-Carter over and over again in almost the same type of roles. It will be interesting to see how Dark Shadows plays out.

Oh, wow. If it is indeed Talk to Her I will be so elated. One of my favorite films ever.

Fingers crossed.

I think Mars Attacks is a brilliantly good film...but I know many people disagree. This may sound silly, but I think a film of Burton's that would work well in the collection is Pee Wee's Big Adventure, which is a film that works on many levels. Hopefully the bd release this fall will do it justice.

It's obviously a Hemingway reference so the clue refers to Midnight in Paris.

My issue is that the Martians grossed/scared me out as a kid, and I haven't been able to watch the film since. I'm sure it's a good film, but I can't get passed the martians.

I haven't made it all the way through Alice in Wonderland.
Didn't care for Sweeny Todd very much.
Didn't like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Big Fish was "alright"
Never saw Planet of the Apes, corpse Bride, or Sleepy Hollow,

I love:

Ed Wood, Beetlejuice, Mars Attacks, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Not that anyone cares
