Told ya.

Since you said something about Epstein (who Criterion should work on as well), Germaine Dulac is someone who I recommend as well. Her film "The Seashell and the Clergyman" is on Kino's first Avant Garde set.

I know the Criterion 50% Of Sale is great in many respects, but looking back on my order Friday - I Ordered 3 Women and My Life as a Dog, and while it was great at 19.99 each in the end the total was 47.89. and I won't recieve them until probably end of the week. Amazon w/ Prime would have been 55.98 w/ a difference of 8.09.

Kind of kicking myself now. 3 Women has been a wishlist upgrade of mine for years. Just wish I could have it sooner Not Bashing the sale just bashing the fact I didn't do the math My mistake

$8.09 of extra shipping fees just to have them what ? 3 days before ?
That's a bit expensive.

Free shipping didn't kick in until you hit 50 bucks. So only getting two blus takes some of the wind out of the sale.

Jealous! Can't wait to see that movie. I'm sure the cinematography was a highlight of the movie (as it is with many trier films). I'm sure this movie will look great on blu. Is there perhaps more room in the CC for another Trier release?

It's not Criterion related, but I totally love your Dean Jones avatar.

Still waiting on If...., it's been two weeks since Amazon shipped it, and as stated before, they refunded the shipping on it, which makes me happy. It was suppose to arrive on the 8th at the latest, but it's not coming until the 13th. Expedited ended up being about a week SLOWER than standard. I will be ordering from the again, when I have more money. Next time, I'll stick with regular shipping though, because expedited is a lie. I thought I would have watched the film by now.

Yes Spidey! Thanks for the heads up on the Germaine Dulac!

It's a better release than I had first imagined...

Hey...any feedback on my "If...." post above? I had read that the original film was released by CC on DVD cut somewhat. Any info on this and the BD release?

I have The Shaggy DA on DVD.

I'm a huge, huge, huge, HUGE fan of old school live action Disney. Wish a lot of it was available BD, or Disney at least cared about releasing "proper" versions of them. Blackbeard's Ghost is attrocious, as it's not even a P&S version of a 4:3 crop! It makes me so angry that they crap all over their live action films this way.

Probably would cost Criterion too much to rescue the much maligned Disney Live action films to give them proper releases.

I just see on Beaver that the dvd shows a runtime of 1:51:32 while the blu, 1:51:45.365. This could be from a number of things but I'm not sure if/what was cut from the dvd release. Hopefully someone else can help.

Has anyone order Beauty and the Beast or High and Low from B&N within the last month? I placed an order as part of the 50% sale back in July and B&N has yet to send anything. After e-mailing them they pretty much told me they don't have it in stock yet (which I find rather silly).

Thanks Spidey!

Here's what I read on Amazon reviews of "If...." This is based on the Criterion DVD - There are (2) reviews:

I.) 2.0 out of 5 stars "Edited film", August 25, 2010

By Harrison L. Adams "haridam" (USA) - See all my reviews

(REAL NAME) This review is from: If... (The Criterion Collection) (DVD)

One of the memorable moments in the orginal occurred when one of the faculty matrons took up arms and joined the climactic rebellion. That moment and others inexplicably did not appear in the dvd I received. It was as though someone thought these images too offensive or scathing or something, and decided to take sheers to them.

Considering what's out there nowadays on video, this is a most disheartening act, and I'm sorry to even have to report it. Thus, "If . . " receives a less than perfect rating from this quarter.

II.) 1.0 out of 5 stars NOT the original version, August 3, 2007

By Mutaya "Dawas" (Canada) - See all my reviewsThis review is from: If... (The Criterion Collection) (DVD)

This is not the original version of the film. This is the censored version. As such, it should be labeled that way. The fact that this film has been released in a censored version so many years after its original release is a sad testament on society today. I have lost respect for Criterion.

EDIT: Ironically Spidey..."Zero de conduite" reminds me a bit of "If...."

Still waiting for a shipping notification for the "75,000 seconds" sale. I ordered my titles within the first 5,000 seconds of the sale or so too...... hmm.

If was cut for frontal nudity purposes for US audiences when it made its theater rounds many years ago. From what I have seen on the original CC dvd release, it is uncut, so the new BD should be the same.

Edit: I just saw your post Rich. Paramount had the US rights originally and I thought they cut their release in the UK, but CC got the original print. From what you posted, it looks like they got the edited print from Paramount.

Thanks for the heads up John!

I had rented the Criterion DVD from NetFlix a couple of months ago, and I think it was the original DVD that they released in 2007. I'm assuming that they used the same "cut" of the film for the 2011 DVD and BD?

I ordered High and Low on release day in July, and received my copy a few weeks ago. Their site is still saying will ship in 24 hours, although I do remember it being out of stock for a short period of time back in August. I would ask them why the hell their website says one thing, but the rep says something else. where in Canada are you? I had mine shipped to NS.

From what I read, more full frontal footage was cut from all releases, with the footage lost, and If.... has never been released anywhere with that few seconds or so in it. There has never been an "uncensored" version (or what DVDBeaver is calling uncensored) released anywhere. The version on the BD is the version that was originally released in theatres.

Slightly off-topic on the If... convo, but it would be great if Criterion would do a blu transfer of the sequel 'O Lucky Man!'. If you guys liked If... and haven't seen this I would highly recommend you do.

Does anyone think that they will release The Killer on blu anytime? I am watching and buying these in order of spine number and that movie is fast approaching and will be bloody expensive on DVD.
