If they announce The Lady Vanishes tomorrow I will explode. One of my top 10 favorite movies ever.

Its without a doubt The Lady Vanishes as you can seen in the screenshot and movie link. Just pause the movie at about 2:55. The smear and mountains line up. So go ahead and explode now.

My question is will the 2nd feature 'Crook’s Tour' from The Lady Vanishes DVD be in 1080p. Given Criterion's track record I'm going to say yes.

is it wrong to wish they had a view like "the disney view" on older movies so the black bars are filled in with something?

Is it "wrong"? No. Is it stupid? Yes.

Are consumers also going to want the black bars on the top and bottom of an image to be filled up with some distracting image crap? I'm sure there's an outcry for it, but I haven't read about it, yet.

What do you guys think about this getting only a DVD-R release

http://www.wbshop.com/Akira-Kurosawa...gid=ARCHIVENEW

Surely this would of made a good Criterion Bluray.

Akira Kurosawa's Dreams

Based on the colors, alone, in the film it would've been prime for a blu-ray presentation, I think.

I never got the point of Disneyview anyway. How are the added picture borders supposed to be any less distracting than black bars? I'd say it's probably the opposite. Also, they're still both useless information that has nothing to do with the movie I'm watching and it doesn't really fix the fact that the video doesn't fill the whole screen.

I've never heard of this alleged "Disneyview" until now...and it sounds atrocious.

It's actually not too bad. And since it's completely optional, I have no problem with it.

More than likely it's the same DVD transfer from several years back.

Unfortunately, since it is a Warner Brothers title, the chances are pretty slim.

Not Criterion related, but one of my writing gigs has afforded me a chance to interview someone that works for Paramount in regards to the new Breakfast at Tiffany's Blu transfer. With the wealth of film folk here, I wanted to see if any of you had something may want to be asked regarding that film or, possibly, anything else Paramount related. PM me if you do.

To keep it Criterion related, I am unbelievably stoked at getting some more Hitchcock. Hopefully Vertigo, no matter who's putting it out, is next in line.

I agree. I think it's THE LADY VANISHES.

Please, please, please be part of (2) Hitchcock month for December (like P&P or Malle in the past).

I actually believe some people can't tell the difference between a movie that has been released by Criterion on dvd, and a "Criterion film" (which none exists). A "Disney film" is much different than "Breathless, released on dvd by Criterion". I would actually stop buying from Criterion if they did something like that (pretty much wh*re out the company logo on each side of the screen while you watch a film that had nothing to do with them). Not saying they would do that, but to go along with the OP's post.
