Thanks for the help, I think I am going to go with High & Low. I may purchase another one, which I think will be Solaris, or maybe a completely different random one that I see and decide that I want.

It seems that The Lady Vanishes is a pretty sure bet.

I wouldn't be surprised if they only announce two, but hopefully there will be more.

I would love to see Two-Lane Blacktop and Picnic At Hanging Rock. Also, The Life Aquatic and The Royal Tenenbaums need to get out on blu to complete the Wes Anderson Criterion Collection! I love his work. Hopefully I won't be flamed now.

The Lady Vanishes already has been locked. Here is hoping for another upgrade and two more new titles. Who knows, I can predict a lot of things but Criterion has always a surprise under the sleeve .

It looks like it, but I'm not positive yet. I think the cars he drives in the movie don't have a bell like that on the hood. Definitely a 20's vehicle though so I think City Lights is the best guess. Good news if true.

Good call I didn't notice that, but according the this site and others it is from the same source.
It would be great to have some more info about this. From a few of the screenshots I'm guessing the MoC version would most likely be the directors intentional framing as the same Criterion screenshots cut people in half on the edges.
Granted those particular scenes employ a static camera.

Blu-ray.com even lists the Criterion Aspect Ratio as 2.34:1 and the OAR as 2.35:1

I'll be getting this regardless and ultimately its not that big a deal other then being a curiosity.

It concerns me that the Criterion is noticeably cropped. In one screenshot, a person visible on the left of the MoC's frame is completely missing from the Criterion.
However, I think the MoC looks a little soft. Perhaps others will think the Criterion looks artificially sharpened.
Any thoughts?
Hmmm I guess I will wait for more reviews but since I don't have a region B/free player, I'd have to go with CC anyway.

The Soft Skin

if they could also release on blu-ray "Ma Femme Est Une Sorcière" (aka I Married A Witch) with Veronica Lake I would be in heaven... (it's already on hulu under Criterion calatalog...)

since a blu-ray is out in Japan (altough I have seen no test and no screenshots so far which is a bit strange for a blu-ray which is out since last July) : The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (I don't know if Criterion have the right for this like he used to for the laserdisc)

Crash from Cronenberg would be a killer (sorry) for me...
Atom Egoyan needs to enter in the Criterion collection : and I don't think that "Exotica" would be a bad choice

regarding the blu-ray upgrade side, 2 weeks ago I watched again "Short Cuts" and while remembering my crush for Madeleine Stowe I also thought that a blu-ray upgrade would be fantastic for this title (I bought 3 Women of course (already had the DVD) and was really pleased with the blu-ray)

I know Belle de Jour will come pretty soon... I love this movie soooo much. I already have the StudioCanal transfer and judging the transfer (not that bad but...) I'm sure Criterion could do better...

Picnic at Hanging-Rock would be nice; but I already buy the BR UK when it came out...

I love all of the Film Noir that Criterion has released on BD. (The Third Man, The Night of the Hunter, Sweet Smell of Success, The Killing, and my personal fav, Kiss Me Deadly)

I hope that Criterion continues to license other classic films from this genre.

P.S.
Has anyone seen Angel Face (1952) directed by Otto Preminger and starring Robert Mitchum and Jean Simmons? (and would you suggest it?)

Interesting, there aren't any films starring Gary Cooper in the Collection. I wonder what might change that.
Hmmmm interesting.

Does anyone know the first episode of CriterionCast without Ruie Obias? I hated the show with him hosting. But I've learned it's improved since his departure.

No, I think people just didn't realize you were joking. Once people saw other people excited about it, it just spread.

Amazing how that happens on the internet

I didn't realize the DVD for Ball of Fire went OOP. I wouldn't put it past them to get their hands on the title. It wasn't available for the longest time. Otherwise MGM should have just kept the DVD avaiable. I recall having it ordered but was realyl hard to find in stores.

I would KILL for Johhny Guitar that film needs a decent dvd and HD release for sure. That film has been in limbo forever.

Just hoping that Criterion doesn't wait until end of the day to post the announcements I have a meeting later in the afternoon and will be stuck there for eternity haha.
