I buy most of my criterion BD's from them. They are very good about getting your orders to you on, or around the street date. (and I use the free media mail shipping option)

They always ship your discs in a box as well.

Sorry about that, you have to click on the cc button at the bottom of the screen to bring the subtitles up. (when the cc button is red the english should be displayed) The picture quality is not half bad for what it is, and the entire film is shown in one chapter.

I will post the link again.

Movie: 4.5 / 5

Great performances by the 3 leading actors. Cool sets. Intriguing storyline. Not as predictable as a lot of newer movies. Nice sense of tension throughout.

PQ: mixed bag. I realize this film is very old, which accounts for the shape the master was in. Some scenes look pretty bad, but I guess it's the best they could do with what they had. Other scenes look pretty great.

AQ: Dialog came across as very intelligible. Music was strong and focused. The music really sucked me in to certain scenes- I couldn't watch this movie on mute.

Pleasantly surprised by this one, since I'm a guy and ballet movies aren't usually my cup of tea. But the movie really isn't "about" ballet at all, it's more a story of conflict, ambition, and love. The ending took me by surprise.

It definately puts "Black Swan" into context. Black Swan is a different movie to be sure but it seems to owe so much to the Red Shoes (as many professional reviewers noted).

As a side note, I tried telling some of my co-workers about this movie. One guy loudly questioned my sexuality and laughed at his own cleverness. Another person said that old movies were horrible. I guess to each his own.
Sad, I know. It's the same thing with musicals. I do have to disagree with you on the PQ, though. The restoration they performed on the film was absolutely marvelous, and the BD is one of the top Blu-rays released so far.

Maybe to them a better use of time would be playing fantasy football (colossal waste of time imo).

I don't really care what this guy thinks. He's older, overweight, and pretty full of himself. If he thinks it's cool to laugh and carry on about supposed stereotypes rather than conduct an actual conversation, I know one person I don't need to listen to.

I thought those kind of juvenile remarks were reserved for high school, but I guess he can't think of anything meaningful to contribute to the conversation.

Oh well, I still like the movie, it's just frustrating that some people can't be reached.

No apology necessary Monty. Thanks for the heads up!

My 12 year old son just said, "Yeah Dad...it's been that way for a few years!" Smart aleck kid!

EDIT: I just realized that there is no CC option on the iPad...no wonder. Hopefully my Panny BD player that has YouTube will have a CC option.

drbikeshorts is correct that the Criterion isn't part of an Elipse set, so I share some of his hope for an upgrade.
Most importantly, I'm not region-locked

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion.
Unless it's the wrong opinion.

I don't force my interests down the throats of anyone

FF is great for a Browns fan though.... gives the season purpose after week 7 or so

It's kind of like baseball..... a statistician's dream come true

Either way, someone who says "Fellini?? those movies look dumb" is just someone without an open mind.... there's no reason to say "I see you like XYZ.... well XYZ is stupid!"

Take the high-road.... the other road leads to the path of pretension

I don't think he did either but the guy's reaction to his tastes (The Red Shoes) was that of a 9 year old.

I guess I'm a pretentious ******* to my co-worker, whos' a year older than I am, when I just gawk at him when he sprouts off that he doesn't watch anything made before 1980, animated films aren't real ones, and questions as to why I buy movies and have a movie collection at all, when I can just download the latest films and watch them once with poor PQ. He and I do not agree on films. I don't like a lot of stuff he likes, but it seems like it's a personal insult to him when I say something like Inception is a 7/10, rather than a 10/10. Of course, he's critical of everything I like/do. Ranting on and on about everything like it's an abomination. He has issues.

Forgot to add, I don't try to force my tastes on him. I just roll my eyes and carry on. It's annoying as hell to put up with this daily though. He keeps trying to push Mac on me as well, because Windows and Android suck, Apple's the only company to make quality products.

Default waiting for them to upgrade LAST DAYS OF DISCO is driving me nuts!

Was so excited when the SD came out but couldn't afford it, but now won't allow myself to buy it for fear of an upgrade. I have the poster on my wall which is beginning to annoy me every time I look at it! Want to show this film to so many friends, but want to do so on blu!

All this late chat remember me of a thing that happened a few weeks ago. I was at a school meeting discussing the events and such of this semester. Half-through the meeting, a proffesor pointed out that the French Cinema Tour was just about to begin. I was pretty excited about it, not screaming or telling anyboby about it, just within myself. Then, suddenly, one of my girl classmates stand up and starts saying the Tour was a waste of time and that all French Cinema is obviously porn . I didn't say anything cause I know such ignorance is unfixable but it really hitted me how incredibly ignorant most people sounded about films. Most of my class is composed of people who don't appreciate anything that doesn't involve gore, sex, "horror" and/or romantic comedy by the numbers . I don't have a problem with people not liking film at all, what I have problem with is when people just talk in such a blatantly ignorant way.

I know how you feel... I bought the DVD but wanted it on BLU. My grails for Blu upgrades in terms of recent releases that were contracted for BLU at that moment would be Z and Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles
