I say watch no more..... buy buy buy! It's very well done.
I "would, would, would"...but they cost "money, money, money..."

Money is tighter these days, so I'll happily watch it on NetFlix and add it on disc in November.

The only Criterion I've added lately with no discounting is "The Phantom Carriage". Damn "silents"!

Again, I am not really complaining here. I LOVE the current output Criterion has. I don't consider them mainstream in any measure. The closest thing to a mainstream director is Kurosawa and even then I don't think he is (Plus I love his work). I am just saying that it would be nice to see an expansion of their horizons. I like Bergman, Kurosawa and the likes just as much as everyone here .

I wrote a brief summary of the differences (with minor plot spoilers) here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/united-kin...ml#post4330378
Basically, the so-called theatrical version is half the length and omits far too much story. Some sub-plots are so truncated that they don't make a lot of sense unless you've seen the full version.
I've just sold my UK copy (which has both versions) to a friend and I'll be picking up the Criterion version in November
I'm a big fan and it was one of my favourite blind-buys.
I'm also looking forward to Criterion's package of extras.

There is one shop in central London which sells Criterion titles - not sure how they go about their licensing ect but thats another story. I had a browse round the other day and saw Beauty And The Beast and Blow Out were in their equivalent of a sale - reduced to the ridiculously cheap price of £29.99 from £39.99. ($50-55ish?)

As you'd expect I had a chuckle and walked out. So have a thought for us Brits when you are splashing out on your B&N 50% off sales with free shipping

Luckily I've managed to pick up all my Criterions from ebay for £15-20 all in, which I'm fairly happy about.

The most expensive in there was BBS America Lost And Found £135!

Rich, I could be wrong, but I think you have to have the B&N mastercard. I tried to use my mastercard in a similar promotion, which was not a B&N and it would not put the free shipping on. I hope this one is different though, as free shipping is nice.

I used a non-BN Mastercard on a different B&N promo recently, and it worked just fine.

This will come in handy for one of their sales for my non-B&N memebership account when I don't qualify for free-shipping (25 bucks or whatever).

John and TJs...I hope it works for most of those, that don't/can't buy from the B & N store. I've got (2) stores fairly close to me and I'm a member, so this won't help me much.

It's a thoughtful gesture, and it should help out a lot of people, especially where it's been confirmed that it's not just on the B&N Master Card. I unfortunately can't take advantage of it as I only have one credit card, and it's a Visa.

I just tried this and the code works fine. Last time, whatever that code was, it would not work. I may have had a pre-order. Either way, that may help, as I am too lazy to drive to my 3 local B&N stores. They are all in centers and between the parking, gas and just people in general, it is better to shop online some times and let someone else deliver it to my door. Kind of like getting a pizza.... Isn't technology grand...

Ironically, I just came back from BB and picked up that Sid and Nancy release, so my night is filled.

It's only obscure because no one gives it attention on American dvd, yet alot of film fans know they are anything but obscure.

Brazil's Cinema Novo is one of the "big 4" New Waves from the 60's (France, Japan, Czech, and Brazil) with the obvious "big" name in Rocha. There was an obscure wave of directors at the same time (that "Marginal Cinema" I have been talking about that I believe is right up there with any of those). So Brazil in the 60's had 2 radical Wave of new young (some very young, like 22) directors, and all influenced by Godard no less (The Marginal Cinema, or also called "Garbage Mouth Film" are pretty much Breathless and La Chinoise mixed with a violent exploitation film.)

You can always look on Criterion's site with 99.9% assurance that they still own the distributing rights for titles not listed as OOP. It's been stated in the past, though, that Criterion has to re-negotiate their licenses for re-releasing films on blu-ray that they have already released on DVD. Criterion's site has a filter for OOP titles, though, so I'm sure you'll find about 400 films that are still in their possession for releasing.

Don't you have a cinematheque or art museum near you that screens foreign films?
