Personally I would go with Harakiri as it is a favorite and extremely we done, but would also agree with Diabolique being a wonderful film and Wages of Fear too! You really can't go wrong so base your decision on what sounds most appealing to you!

Kuroneko
Harakiri
The Wages Of Fear
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Hunger
Army of Shadows
Diabolique

Can't really go with a single title here. You have in that list my favorite Criterion releases so far (At least from what I own). I would say go with Diabolique and Army of Shadows. Both films are absolutely amazing in almost every aspect. I can't really recommend them enough. Both have magnificent PQ and AQ and come loaded with supplements. Do yourself a favor and get both (They are $20 right now after all) .

In another note, I can't quote you all (That would make this a huge post ) but thanks a lot for all of your recommendations. From what I see, I can't really go wrong with any of them. I hate you guys, I have to get both now .

I'd have a 'Sophie's Choice' over the Clouzot titles Guitar Joe. Both are great, but Wages of Fear is timeless. I also preferred its background features.

Is Criterion still doing the replacement for the faulty Walkabout disk? (which I have)

Who do I have to email over there?

3. Kuroneko - Actually one of my favourites out of the list, but if you are going on technical specs, the other two are slightly better.
2. Harakiri - I really enjoyed the plot of this one
1. The Wages Of Fear - most intense cinematic experience ever
5. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - what a trip, quite literally
Hunger
Army of Shadows
4. Diabolique - really enjoyable, but don't watch the extras until you watch Wages of Fear

See bolded.

You had to make this difficult didn't you? There's only two on the list I haven't watched yet, and one just so happens to be awaiting shipment, Army of Shadows, from Amazon.

Quick question for people who have watched them.

Is it advisable to watch "Island of Lost Souls" and "Beauty and the Beast" with a ten year old? I just ask as I enjoy watching movies with my daughter but do not want to scare the hell out if her. She managed Hammers "Horror of Dracula" just fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

There's nothing objectionable in Beauty and the Beast at all. Island of Lost Souls is a bit intense but nothing the children of today can't handle, and especially if Horror of Dracula didn't bother them (not even the melting scene at the end?!)

Thanks.

The only thing that got her was when Lee popped up out of the window

General question here: Does Criterion have Black Friday sales every year? There are quite a few I'd like to purchase.

Not that I know but there is an on going sale right now at Barnes & Nobles, both in-store and online. I suggest you order anything you want from them right now, all Criterion releases (Blu-ray, DVD and Eclipse Series) are marked 50% off. To be honest, this is as good as it gets .

Oh nice! I wonder if B&N will do a BF sale on top of the already marked down prices?

The sale ends the 21st, so no. Although, as suggested, this is pretty much as good as it gets!

Then I'll take advantage of it ASAP. Just have to figure out what I want. Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll pick up:

Carlos
Days Of Heaven
Fear and Loathing
Hunger
the Last Emporer
Naked
Paris, Texas
Playtime
Repulsion
Videodrome

Just a personal opinion, but I saw a revival of Playtime in 70mm at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York in the last year and I really disliked it. It was supposed to be a satire (or critique) of modern consumer culture and corporate life in postwar 1960s Paris and it might have worked when it was released, but it no longer works (at least not for me). And stylistically, it's almost a silent film. I think the only reason it's remembered with any fondness is because it was shot in 65mm and because it was rarely shown in the U.S.

Rapid desensitazation to horror is advisable for rewarding parent/ child relationship. Think about youself when you were 10, I know I had at least seen enough violent action and horror movies to not be botherd by them.

Hat tip to CriterionCorner on Twitter for the link.

Not that comments are true, but the comments on the link sure seem to think it will be Criterion. My guess is that if it is a Criterion release it will be announced on Tuesday.
Hi there -- I interviewed Malick's editor Billy Weber last week, and he dropped the news on Badlands without any prompting, specificaly stating "fairly soon." He said it was either "Warner or Criterion." Being that Weber is one of the more important collaborative principals of Malick's films, i would assume that Criterion would have had him do a fresh commentary, which he did not. I will try to get more news from him about it. Pertaining to the comments on my blog, many people comment anonymously that are in that inner circle.

Either way, it'd be nice to have a better transfer and more special features.

Kind regards,
Paul

Has anybody seen Polanski's Carnage? I think it looks amazing, but my town never gets limited release films.

And given Criterion has a few Polanski films in it's catalogue, any chance a major distributor won't pick this up for a home release and Criterion could get it?

He did one for Days of Heaven, do you think they would have him do another one?

There is no commentary on T.T.R.L. Criteron disc.
