I can't help reading that line without hearing the voice of that kid from the Twilight Zone episode. "Its off to the corn field with you!"

Watched Carlos over the weekend. Magnificent performances all around. Édgar Ramírez especially. Also IMO Nora von Waldstätten is a amazing looking women! There was a lot to take in on my first viewing. I think I'll have to watch it again to absorb it all.

After watching the special features little details in the film that seemed like just minor details actually had a lot more meaning and truly shows how much research went into the script. Knowing some of these things will greatly add to the second viewing. At first, even though I liked the film, a lot of the film seemed to repeat itself. This is mostly due to jumping from location to location and having a lot of similar moments with the characters. I got that feeling a few times, but again I think this was just because there was so much to take in. I'm sure on my second viewing that will not be the case. I will notice more of the subtleties thrown into the characters on top of the minor details that have deeper meanings.

Highly recommended.
"Words of wisdom, Lloyd!"

Not directly related to the film itself but I am in love with the box art of 12 Angry Men . I mean, just look at it (You can find all the different shots at criterionforum.org BTW ), the color composition is perfect, the spine will come out of the rest and the art in actually pretty smart. My vote for cover art of the year .

I finally got around to watching Che, which I've had on my shelf for a year. I had started it not too long after picking it up, but was confused 20 minutes in so stopped it.

Glad I finally stuck through and watched the whole thing. Part 1 is, in my mind, the better part, even though its jumping back and forth in time gets confusing. Part 2 is easier to follow, but is just less interesting over all. Did really love Del Toro's performance, though. Over all a solid 3.5/5, with part 1 gaining a half star and part 2 losing a half star.

Also mucked my way through more By Brakhage, finishing off the first disc. Brakhage is an interesting filmmaker in that his films feel like pieces of high art. Especially his purely abstract stuff. I mean, I could pause on each frame and see something that should be hanging in MoMA. Just gorgeous. His less abstract works (though still pretty freakin' abstract) varies between being kind of tedious ("Dog Star Man" comes to mind) and a mixture of beautiful/horrifying ("Window Water Baby Moving").

Not sure how long it will take me to get through discs 2 & 3--probably ages--but I just realized that this and The Secret of the Grain are my only unwatched (or, not finished) Criterions now. I may have to scrape a couple of bucks from my upcoming paycheck (car inspection be damned) to grab a couple more titles from the B&N sale...

That's another good idea to add to the survey Shell Oil Junior proposed. It is a fantastic cover. Kuroneko's a good second with the "ghost."

I really want that set. I can definitely see what you mean. I love his work, but it isn't something you can sit down and watch for hours, exactly. Even if you love it and appreciate it, it's still nearly impossible to sit through without eventually losing some amount of interest.

Well, if you ever want to see it in Hi-Def and don't require a wacky C on the cover, there is a lovely and cheap region free release from the UK.

The OCD regarding this cover is driving people mad over @ Criterionforum since the finalized cover features the 12nd juror in 13rd place.

That's a perfect analogy. I hate to say it but I can barely spend more than 5 minutes on this site. The "slipcover discussion", "how many blu's do you have" "rate my collection", "latest haul" threads seem to be the only threads with constant activity.

Someone recently tried to open a thread discussing just the merits of the A/V quality...it was locked, LOL.

So how is the Rushmore director's cut different? I think Rushmore shouldn't be changed, a director's cut might ruin its perfect flow. Wes Anderson's judgment isn't too good the last five years, he is a way lesser writer/director than he was.

Dammit! And the DVD version doesn't even a C on the cover or a spine number!

I mentioned that already. It was locked because people "were insulting slipcovers." Yet, a lot of the trolling/insults regarding the B&N coupon is ignored (and it is bad, I've started to ignore some posters, but they keep trying to goad me), or having people telling me to go to hell because I said French on a cover wasn't a big deal, are ignored.

This thread is pretty active, and isn't full of nasty people, contrary to what non-Criterion fans think.* Half the people in the B&N sale thread called Criterion fans "snobby know-it-alls," until they got their hands on a coupon.

*I am so going to regret saying that
