Since we're discussing Woody Allen, or his new film for that matter, does anyone have any particular thoughts on Bullets Over Broadway? I just watched it last night and absolutely loved it!

DeepDiscount is having a 38% off Criterion sale. Not the best deals, but some are reasonable. Better if you hunt down a coupon to apply. Just thought I would mention it.

+1. Woody is my favorite director.

I love MIDNIGHT IN PARIS. Although, I prefer VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA slightly.

Yea he's definatley one of my favorites also. I liked Vicky Christina Barcelona but perfer Midnight. I love the humor in it, its like the old Woody. I guess you can say I perfer his earlier, funnier movies

I don't have many other Criterions I am interested in getting. I think it's more expensive to do the Buy 2, Get 1 free because I'll be most likely picking a "filler" title to meet the three title requirement. Plus, I have a few unwatched Criterions already.

I have only really gotten into his newer films. I remember seeing Everybody Says I Love You when it came out in theatres because my gf at the time wanted to see it. All I remember is that Drew Barrymore and the guy from Pulp Fiction (at the time, I didn't know he was Tim Roth) were in it!

I have seen and loved Match Point, Whatever Works, Vicky Christina Barcelona, and just last night, Bullets Over Broadway. I'm quite excited to be able to check out some of his older, classic films on BD in the next few months.

I am guessing you prefer post-Manhattan Allen?

I seem to be in the minority who prefer pre-Annie Hall Allen, even if I don't hate both Annie Hall or Manhattan but very few of his movies after these two have really interested me.

Were you asking him or me? I have really only seen the newer films. As a kid (definitely not at the age where I could have appreciated film) I saw Broadway Danny Rose and couldn't stand to be in front of the TV anymore after only 20-30 minutes. I made my dad turn it off and throw in our VHS copy of Road Warrior!

As an adult, I look forward to watchign some of these films I never gave a chance as a kid.

I kind of quoted him but the question is mostly for everyone. In general I have notice most people seem to like Woody Allen's movie that are after 1980 and on. I find very few who prefer only his 70's movies and even more specific before Annie Hall.

You don't have to get just Criterions you know, you can grab the few you want, and combine them with other non-Criterions you might want..

Do movies he only wrote part or all of count? Because I really liked What's New *****cat? and Casino Royale, and the plots of his 1970s pre-Annie Hall seem more appealing to me than the post-stuff. Annie Hall was enjoyable, but not one of my favourite films of all times.

I love all Woody Allen. From Bananas to Midnight in Paris. Some of my favorites are Manhattan, Annie Hall, Love and Death, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Hannah and her sisters. I like almost all his films. I really love his lesser known Broadway Danny Rose and The Purple Rose of Cairo. I think his worst era was the 90's and he didn't come back till Matchpoint.

He sort of lost me in the 90's as well for some reason and it's to the point where I really haven't check any of his movies in the last dozen years or so,

I really enjoy his early stuff like Bananas, Sleepers, Love & Death....

Say I get a Crterion and two $29.99 titles (My Fair Lady and West Side Story). I'll assume there will be at least a 20% off member coupon/15% off non-member coupon and the sale occurs before the $8 off $40 coupon expires (01/22/12 and I can use the $8 off $40 coupon).

$39.99 * 0.90 = $35.99 - $8 = $27.99.
$29.99 * 0.90 * 0.80 = $21.59.
$29.99 * 0 = $0.00.

$49.58 plus sales tax.

Can't use the $5 off $50 since total before sales tax is less than $50.

$16 and change for three Blus before sales tax.

40% sale however:

$39.99 * 0.90 * 0.60 = $21.59 - $8 = $13.59.
$29.99 * 0.90 * 0.60 * 0.80 = $12.96.
$29.99 * 0.90 * 0.60 * 0.85 = $13.77.

$40.32 total before sales tax.

Almost $10 cheaper, see?

Of course, YMMV on the $8 off $40 coupons, but I've had great success at my Barnes & Noble with coupons.

All these coupons/rebates/deals calculation almost look more complicated then figure out how to place something in orbit around Jupiter sometimes

Love Sleepers. His 90s stuff isn't as great, Bullets over Broadway was his best film from that era IMO (and its a great film). Everything else wasn't as great. Some good ones thou are Manhattan Murder Mystery, Husbands and Wives, and Small Time Crooks.

I'm curious, what do 8 1/2 fans think of Stardust Memories?

I don't mean any disrespect, but 9 out of 10 of your posts seem to be mathematical equations revolving around Criterion sale prices @ B&N.

I may be in the minority, but it seems like most people are lost and don't care.

There's actually hidden code in his equations that are used to communicate with different factions and terror cells in his organization. Either that or he really takes B&N sale very very seriously....

Do you buy movies because you like them, or because of how cheap you can get them? Not trying to be offensive, but I'm honestly curious. Does it really matter that there's a difference of 10 dollars if you really like the film?

You're not the only one. What ever happened to buying films because you like them, at anytime, and not when you can get them at a cheap price? It seems like a hassle to me, because who's to say if the price will drop, go up, or the title goes out of print/stock before you can get it at a price you meticuously figure out?

I really do like the films, but it doesn't hurt to try and save a few dollars here and there. It adds up after a while.

I see your point though. Sorry about the math. Sometimes I can get carried away.
