Puzzling. Those two films make for the perfect double bill.

They certainly do, and don't forget the appropriately titled book, to complete the media triple bill.

Just picked up Design For Living at B&N for ~$16 today. B&N's been good to me this year; The Lady Vanishes just came in the mail earlier this week.

To answer the question asked several pages back, my favorite criterion blurays are

Pale Flower - It's one of my 10 or 15 favorite movies. I was shocked when I heard the initial announcement.
Bigger Than Life - " "
Paris Texas - I'm sure this will be replaced by Branded to Kill, which is a top ten-ish movie for me as well. Tokyo Drifter is one of my top 30 favorite movies, along with PT.

The Leopard, Blow Out and Wings of Desire are also favorites of mine.

As for Suzuki, you almost have to have an affinity for 60s Japanese movies to really get him. He's a lot like Masumura in that regard. When I have recommended people stuff like Blind Beast, they think I have serious issues or something lol. Pale Flower is less Japanese-centric.

I'm looking forward to watching Salo. Seen Sweet Smell of Success once and thought it was a really good film.

As a BD edition seems to be a long-shot now, I am planning on ordering Berlin Alexanderplatz for Christmas. Does anyone has some thoughts on the film and the quality of this edition ?

The dvd is the best it's going to look and highly doubt a blu-ray will happen, anytime soon anyways.

Thoughts on the film, being a huge Fassbinder fan, it's my fav release they have ever put out. 13 parts of melodramatic bliss that turns into a surreal epilogue that you can just watch over and over. GET IT.

I agree with CG that you will never see a BD release of this, as the restoration would be very costly and time consuming for Criterion. It is certainly a set that needs your attention, as it is 15 hours. You need to put a week aside for a viewing, as it is not really the kind of series that 'you can come back too'. I have had the set for a few years and have viewed it twice, as frankly there are too many other films that need viewings also. As for the content, it is something that is very hard to describe, as the 'story' is not what you are truly getting from Fassbinder, as his film-making style. It's 'cold war' and a conflicted Berlin at that time come through in the episodes, but like I said, the story has little to do with the entire piece. Frankly, and I am a Fassbinder fan, but not big fan, this is one of the best releases you will find from Criterion and should be in everyone's film library along with the Rossellini War Trilogy. Just make sure you have the time for the entire viewing. Also, this is a great set to get at the 50% off B&N sale when they have it, as it is pricey, but worth every penny.

The bold will be very nice...I wonder if you will see the 'Wild Strawberries' again??? Now that Fincher is done with the Dragon movie, maybe a clue for 'The Game' as many have fawned for.,,,

Same here. I'm feeling pretty confident at this point that they will honor those prices, but I won't get my hopes up too much just in case.

Maybe you should import the Arrow BD and then it will definitely be announced.

Default The Killing---Suberb!

Not only does Criterion do a splendid job on the restoration of "The Killing"--but the movie itself maybe the quintessential caper flick and certainly is one of Kubrick's masterpieces.

And of course, who is better as the floosie than Marie Windsor? She is one of the greatest film noir divas!
