Someone mentioned on the official Criterion page that the "rock" is actually an iceberg, representing A Night to Remember. That could, indeed, be the case, as it does look as if it is melting (Look at the base of it. It looks like water pooling up from sitting there). The the third one must be in 3-D as the theatrical release was, otherwise I will say that Criterion has lost me forever!

I have also seen people guessing that the wet rock is actually a reference to Wim Wenders' Pina, as seen in this photo:



I haven't seen it yet, so I can't say for sure. However, it would fit with the car carrier referring to the Winders box set that has been all but confirmed.

Will it likely be Pina? Criterion has not done a 3D release so far and 3D is far less frequent in their catalog than in the Movie Studio catalogs.

Oh, wow...that is good possibility. This documentary certainly would fit in with the collection, as well as give Criterion a great excuse to release a 3-D BD.

Do you think it's likely CC will release Being John Malkovich? I'm thinking the marionette is a clue, plus CC screened it at All Tomorrow's Parties this year.

There's a region-free UK release of BJM; I'm wondering if I should import it, or wait.

Also, generally, how long does it take for CC to release a film after they've dropped a clue?

With regard to the New Year's card there really isn't any general timeframe beyond 'sometime in 2012...probably'.

It would be April at the earliest though because they've already announced the Jan-Mar releases.

I kept wondering what the "Woman in revolving door" clue was supposed to be, but seeing it as "Marionette", was....yep.

(For extra hint, we could have had a marionette playing a board game, and on the board game is written "O-KAY, freakin' happy now?" )

Oh, that's too tempting a question. There's so many I'd love to see on Blu-ray regardless of whether CC got ahold of them. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Re-Animator, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, Combat Shock, Return of the Living Dead part 2, Return to Oz (not a horror movie, but still.) Plus others I can't recall right now.

Troma doesn't seem to be putting anymore resources into releasing in HD. Maybe things will change when Toxie 5 is released. Of all 80's horror I'd most like to see The Toxic Avenger get a CC release. The original Japanese first one via Rialto restoration is. The rest deserve something better than when the Weinsteins had Classic Media.
(Although with most of CM at Shout, I can see Shout doing a rather nice job on "Raids Again".)
