Just curious because I never seem to see Darjeeling mentioned in Anderson discussions.
I love Darjeeling Limited. It's one of my favorite films. I honestly don't get the hate it gets. I love the chemistry between Wilson, Shwartzman, and Brody. Every character is lovable in their own way. I loved the setting and music. I love how Anderson always uses The Rolling Stones. I have yet to see the Criterion, I owned the regular dvd. Anyone know if the short is included in the bluray? And is it in HD?

A boxset of Philippe Garrel. Won't happen.

For me there are three upgrades I am desperate for - The Passion of Joan of Arc, Ivan's Childhood and The Spirit of the Beehive. I'm hoping at least one will be out before the year ends. For new titles, I'd quite like to see the Apu Trilogy, one of the hallmarks of world cinema, finally get the treatment it deserves.
I would love an upgrade of The Bad Sleep Well, Stray Dog, Band of Outsiders. For new titles I would love Chinatown and some Woody Allen (the its highly unlikely) also 4 months 3 weeks and 2 days.

I'm a guy who loves his boring movies, but oh my word, I could not handle Darjeeling Limited. I'm honestly surprised I made it through the whole thing. I have given every Wes Anderson movie a chance, but I just can't get into any of his movies.

Yeah, I guess it's just a polarizing film, love it or hate it. Something about it just clicks for me... the style, the humor, the character interactions all work well imho.

I also only have the non-criterion dvd (will update eventually), but I'd assume the Blu has Hotel in the same quality as the main film.

I don't get how you thought it was boring thou? There's always something going on. I guess I'm a sucker for quirky comedies. I bet the Indian setting looks wonderful in HD. I regret not picking it up during the BN sale. I'm actually tempted to just get it at regular price now. Haven't seen it in a while.

I would love for them to re-acquire the pop MGM/Orion movies they used to own, and by that I mean ROBOCOP!!!!!!!!

Because it's awesome and needs more than MPEG2 can give it, also Verhoven's Criterion commentary is the best non-Evil Dead related commentary ever recorded.

First all, I hope everyone had a great New Year and is ready for another thought-provoking year from Criterion. I have done a little catching up on the posts and see that I missed another fantastic Anderson discussion () and I see that someone is complaining about a film that has not even been released yet by Criterion, let alone that he has not even seen for himself. It's good that the New Year is carrying on perfectly like the last...

Anyways, the whole clue thing has me thinking that I did not see a guy stealing a bike, so I am a little worried. But Eating Raoul is a perfect Criterion film and I will be looking forward to that.. Onward we go...

"Ikiru" and "Winter Light/Ingmar Bergman Makes A Movie" without question...

Both would be day one full price purchases for me.

I know that Wes can be a sore point in this thread...

I saw "Rushmore" in a theater, when it was first released. I pretty much knew that I'd buy it at some point (last B&N 40% sale) and my wife and I saw "The Royal Tenenbaums" on TV (I think on HBO) and my wife loved it. I bought it for about $9.99 (Criterion DVD) for my wife...I will likely buy on blu when Criterion releases it.

I rented Darjeeling on NetFlix and we both enjoyed it...I wound up buying that on blu as well...the Criterion blu was a noticeable upgrade in quality. I think Darjeeling is my favorite of the three Wes blus so far...

You're allowed to watch Wes Anderson films, if you balance the cosmos, by watching the Eclipse Gorin films...

I would love for Criterion to release Night of the Living Dead or Prophecies of Nostradamus. Of course, that's wishful thinking.

Agreed...I really enjoyed that Kurosawa title...

I could see them doing another Bergman boxset with all three films of the "Trilogy" (with "Through a Glass Darkly" and "The Silence"...along with "Winter Light").

What you quoted is 12$ under their standard MSRP. If that's not good enough, wait for a possible sale. I don't know what you're wanting to hear? Everyone boycott? Beyond Barnes n Noble crazy sales, 27.99 is a very fair price for Criterions.

That being said I don't understand the comparison to Pale Flower. The more I watch PF the more I feel it is a masterpiece.
The only comparison between Branded to Kill and Pale Flower I've seen is that both film were made by Japanese new wave filmmakers. (and deal with Yakuza assassins in one way or another)

I agree that Pale Flower is a masterpiece, the film asks some timeless questions about the human condition.

Has to be The Rock. My Criterion Collection Blu-Ray feels empty without the greatness of Michael Bay. Maybe a Michael Bay Criterion box-set with The Rock, Armageddon, The Island and Bad Boys could work.

I would like to see Royal Tenenbaums, Rashomon and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie upgraded to blu ray.

The Wes Anderson "debate" certainly is popular in this thread.

When it comes down to it, we all have our own tastes and that's ok.

I think it comes down to two "camps" in this debate. It seems as if there are those who find his films quirky and funny, and others who are bored by them. That's the thing with comedies. If you find they do not appeal to your sense of humor, you are left just sitting there wondering what all the fuss is about.

As I have stated before, I found The Fantastic Mr. Fox to be the Wes Anderson film I enjoyed the most. That is also the one that made me laugh the most. To each their own I suppose.

For "long shot" films I would like to see in the Criterion Collection (aside from cult/horror), I would like to see David Lynch's Twin Peaks, Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets, Tim Burton's Ed Wood, Michael Cimino's The Deer Hunter, Orson Welles' The Magnificent Ambersons, Roman Polanski's Chinatown, Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List, Leo McCarey's Duck Soup, David Fincher's Zodiac...I just realized that I could go on for days with these.

Believe it or not, every film I just mentioned does not have a U.S.A. BD release, except in the case of Zodiac, but the Paramount BD is now OOP.
