I don't know if anyone's already mentioned 'em but Vampyr and Carnival of Souls and even Throne of Blood are examples of gothic horror on the CC label.

Oh wow...The Passion of Joan of Arc! Hopefully Criterion announces the same soon (assuming MOC is region locked). MOC is releasing it in 2013 for those who don't follow them on twitter.

Yes, but MOC's release is scheduled for 2013. So, hopefully Criterion will announce before then.

Floored.
See the bolded. I'm happy with what Criterion is putting out, because most of it is stuff i haven't heard of and haven't seen 50 million times (a few exceptions there with AoaM), while MoC is releasing the opposite kind of film for me, stuff I've seen enough that I have no desire to watch it for awhile, while Criterion has stuff I've never heard of to explore. Between Criterion, TCM, the internets, as well as MoC and Studio Canal, I'm almost overwhelmed with stuff to watch. I have 40 PVRs set up between last night and February 3rd on TCM. It's all personal preference.

I've never bought a criterion title before. Will they have godzilla at walmart (canada)? Thanks, may be a dumb question I know.

It should be called "Even Tinier Furniture."

Alas, no. I've never seen a Criterion at Wally World. Right now, your best bet is to order online from Amazon US, as you'll save a few bucks. Future Shop is claiming to be OOS online, with no info on store stock. they want 40 bucks for it anyways.

You know, it's the releases of MOC that make the crap being released by Criterion like Tiny Furniture all the more worse. What is going on in those Criterion board meetings: "Lets see, we could release some Wilder and Dreyer films on blu, or we could do that one made by a 22 year girl who made a 3rd rate hack job of a film that Noah Bumbaugh made in 1995..."

I heard an interview with the director on KCRW's business last year that's worth checking out. The movie fell off my radar until all the vitriol got me to bookmark it in my VOD. I started watching it the other night only to find it cropped to 1.33:1. My first thought was it must be sabotageby someone on the board! Then I was glad that with CC behind the DVD/Blu a tiny film like this wouldn't be doomed to that kind of poor treatment. I hope they put out a few more similarly small contemporary films this year.

I look forward to checking it out at my local library. Now, about all those poor horsies you beat to death in your post...

Well, people are essentially beating a dead horse at this point. I'm going to watch the film soon too. I'm just sick of hearing about it in this thread, and from the people who haven't watched the film yet who feel the need to bash it endlessly.

Let's talk about Stagecoach, no one ever seems to talk about Stagecoach.

I really want to upgrade Stagecoach, but between upgrading that, 12 Angry Men, Harold and Maude (that other apparently controversial film), Anatomy of a Murder and Vanya on 42nd Street I'd go broke rebuying what I own. And that doesn't even count the CC DVD upgrades.

Double Indemnity is being released on 9/4 by Universal.

...If you can trust they won't scrub the grain out of the film.

Harold and Maude was only mildly controversial, it's Hollis Frampton that's super controversial.

I know the feeling though. I have like 4 tiers of potential wishlist titles. Some I'm going to watch before I buy, others I have no issues buying blindly and/or upgrading. Depends on how much I enjoy the film. Most I'll wait for a sale, but there's a few I'll pre-order right away. Stagecoach is on for 22.99 right now on Amazon, which isn't too bad. I was able to get my copy during the last B&N sale. I have yet to check out Bucking Broadway though.

Actually, out the films you listed, Vanya's the only one I haven't considered adding to my collection. I have 12 Angry Men and Stagecoach, and both Anatomy of a Murder and Harold and Maude are on pre-order.

Edit: Oh my: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new - My mom bought this edition for 5 bucks at Wal-Mart two years ago.

Looking for thoughts on Belle de Jour. It would be a blind buy, but I'm not sure if I should wait for a B&N sale for it. Anyone have the BD and can give some thoughts on it?
