Just hit the back button and keep trying. I got the same thing, but by the third or fourth attempt it would go through. Just be careful on the last page because you may get the error and the order went through. Check your email before retrying.

LOL. maybe, but doesn't seem to be.
I did manage to place an order and did get Belle de jour so I'm happy about that.
I appreciate Criterion trying to hold a great sale for everyone, but they really need to upgrade the site to be able to handle these flash sales better.
I might try to grab a few dvds I wanted at 3 a.m.
I just didn't have any more patience to try and add them earlier.

Just placed my first order. The website is still problematic, but it's slightly better now than it was around midday. Kept experiencing the '500' error with Internet Explorer, but the switch to Firefox 10 reduced that considerably. Promised myself that I wouldn't buy any movies this month (especially with all of the March releases), but the sale was too good to pass up.

I've been a member for the last two years and have only ordered online from them twice. My von Sternberg DVD set came in decent condition, but I had to order the Larisa Shepitko Eclipse online (didn't stock it in-store) and it came with a cracked case (that I'm sure happened in the shipping process). That was in one of those bubble envelopes and the von Sternberg came in a box.

I usually try to order anything not stocked at a store to the store itself, as they get bulk shipments that are boxed and usually damage free. I also live 10-15 minutes from two B&N stores and one of them is on the way home from work for me.

I went ahead and got:

Bottle Rocket
Tiny Furniture
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence

I also used by $10 coupon for the defective White disc.

And when I stopped by my house today, there on the front porch was my replacement bluray for West Side Story.

Today turned out to be a great day after all.

It took about a half hour just to get the items in the cart and checkout but I picked these up for $106 shipped. Apparently I had around $4 in credit in addition to the $10 credit they are giving those who were already registered.

I've often wondered this. For those who keep everything by spine number, do you remove the individual discs from box sets and display them and the empty box since each disc has a spine number, and the box itself has a *different* spine number?

I keep all my box sets in the box. I put them on the shelf by spine number. If a set is split between non-consecutive spine numbers (like By Brakhage) I just go with the later spine number. Thankfully not many are like that. Kinda sad I suppose but I actually have a set of rules for how I organize my Criterion films.

Criterion just sent me a sorry e-mail for all the website problems. Pretty big of them to do it the same day. They have always had great CS and this is proof. You definitely would not see this from B&N, Deep Discount, etc...

Thankfully, I got my 2 orders in without a problem, so no complaints from me. I do see newbs in the sale forum complaining, so maybe they will see this.

Dear Criterion newsletter subscribers,

It’s been a frustrating day for many of our fans—and for us. While a lot of customers have been able to successfully place orders, many have not. We apologize for any difficulties this has caused. We’ve done some work on the site, and it is functioning more efficiently, but certainly not as well as we’d like. Unfortunately, we anticipate that it will remain slow for the duration of the sale.

Many of you were on Criterion.com at the same time trying to get your orders in on certain titles before we ran out of them, which caused a major site slowdown. To alleviate this pressure, after the sale ends we will announce a separate code to honor sale pricing on any titles that go out of stock.

And keep in mind that although the site is not operating at full speed, you should be able to place your order tonight with a bit of patience. Just enter the promotional code SWAK on your shopping cart page at Criterion.com to get 50% off the suggested retail price (SRP) on all in-stock Blu-rays and DVDs before noon EST on February 15th.

Thanks for hanging in there with us. We appreciate it!
The Criterion Collection
