I just did this in two seconds, so excuse the crudity. If they just zoomed in and ditched the boring beige backdrop, Malkovich might look way better:

I hardly look at the covers of my current releases, unless I take them off the shelf to watch them. I really only see the spine. I will say that some a pretty awesome, while others are pretty horrible, but the covers aren't that important.

Even when I do look at them, it's a quick glance at the cover, as the booklet, and more importantly, the film and the extras, get viewed far more. I don't even care about little tears in the booklet from poor packaging, or a cracked/slightly smushed case, give me my movie and, when applicable, the awesome bonus features!

I keep telling myself I'm actually looking forward to expanding my horizons and can't wait for World on a Wire to show up but I know damn well which one is going in first.

There are a lot of things I love about Anatomy of a Murder but I really love that while there are no bad guys everybody is at least a little skeevy in their own way. And not in that trite 'hey, let's give this character a flaw to add some depth' way either.

Since Criterion is releasing barebones blu rays maybe they can release some Woody Allen? I would love a Hannah and her Sisters or Crimes and Misdemeanors Criterion.

Jimmy Stewart is awesome when he plays slightly skeevy. I'm inclined to agree with you, and think the fact that Jimmy Stewart isn't so wholesome and clean in this film really shows how great he truly was as an actor.

I almsot got WoaW, but Lady and the Tramp and Hugo (last minute addition) attracted me a bit more. It's a top priority for July though.

I suppose I'm the lonely soul that actually likes the cover of Certified Copy.

I'm in for all of May's releases. C'mon pre-order deals!

I think I'm the only person (on this forum) who likes the BJM cover. I could think of better, alternative covers that work for the movie, but I really like the person crawling through the eye image.

I haven't cracked it open yet...but I did pick it up on the way home from work. A nice looking digibook indeed. Looks like a fairly good sized booklet to boot. Will likely crack it open tomorrow.

I couldn't resist getting it at B&N...I'm a member...had a 20% coupon and realized at the register, that I had about $12 left on a B&N gift card, so the damage was only about $15 including the tax.

I can recommend it; I'm not a heavy war-film buff, but this is one of the best films of the genre. Really, anti-war.

I only spot-checked the film on Tuesday when I picked it up, both the sound and silent versions, and the sound version easily improves heavily over the DVD I had (and got rid of).

The silent version included with it is of course the biggest note for the release, which some acclaim as an even better picture than the sound one (that was awarded Best Picture, no less). It's only included in standard def, but it's a more than worthwhile extra in my book.
Wow...didn't even know there was a silent version...much less as an extra.

THANKS! I'm psyched!

Spidey...I gotta ask. Knowing a bit about your tastes (I did say, a bit )...I know our friend CC will be thrilled...but what is the lure of that Bergman title for you?

Exactly. I care more about the films too but when we're talking about Criterion I expect a good cover art as well.

Just wondering but does anyone know why Tiny Furniture was released by Criterion? I saw this film for the first time the other day and it was terrible. The main actress is one of the most annoying people I've ever seen on film. Believe she's the director too. Hard to believe Criterion would touch this film.

I didn't like it either, but I get why Criterion picked it up. It's the flagship of the Mumblecore movement.

I was in a RUSH to get home and check out the offerings, hoping for some hiidden GOLD from Criterion.... The Downey set and the Bergmans are home runs though. To me, La Haine is a film you view once. Certified Copy is great, but has also been on Netflix for a while now. I think I still have the Malkovich on HD-DVD somewhere...50% ain't bad though...

So at first glance, I'm thinking Being John Malkovich and Summer Interlude but May does look like a pretty interesting month.

I was a bit surprised by Certified Copy...I can't imagine that there would be much to add to this release in terms of supps, and it's new so it's not like it needs a major pq upgrade.
I can see Being John Malkovich...quite the bizarre and unique film so I'm sure there are plenty of stories/supps behind its filming. Plus I'm sure it will be a good selling title for them. Super excited.
