Looks like Anatomy of a Murder got the same treatment as The Last Picture Show, which doesn't really surprise me, since Sony was initially going to release the BBS box set themselves, but gave it to Criterion instead.
I have always been confused by the language Criterion uses in some of the "about the transfer" sections of their booklets.

Look at the following quote from 12 Angry Men.

"This new high-definition digital transfer was created on a Spirit 2K from a 35mm fine-grain master positive. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, scratches, splices, warps, jitter, and flicker were manually removed using MTI's DRS and Pixel Farm's PFClean, while Image Systems' DVNR was used for small dirt, grain, and noise correction."

Is the transfer "high-definition" or 2K? I would think you could use a 2K datacine to make a HD transfer. (read less resolution)

I'm just as confused as you are, I'm only quoting what I'm reading. To be honest, I'm not a technical specs person when it comes to BD specs. If it looks good to me, and has interesting special features, I'm happy. I can tell when someone just slapped something on a disc, with no effort put into it, and I have often compared "lesser" BD transfers to my DVD copies, and think that the "lesser" transfers are still miles better than the DVD.

I think a lot of the time when people complain about a transfer, it's usually because someone on this site has complained about something, and/or they have their TVs calibrated incorrectly.

In some cases, there is a problem, but I find this site blows them way out of proportion, especially if it's something only people who are actively looking for it pick up on. Look at the whole "tintgate" issue with LOTR, you had people *****ing about it before they even viewed the disc. I honestly wouldn't have noticed anything if people hadn't made a couple thousand posts on it. It's noticable because people whined about it, and it's nowhere near as bad as people say. Again, a lot of people have their TVs, as well as their computer monitors calibrated differently.

How likely is it for the Eric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales boxset to come out in BD ? It looks like a quite interesting release.

Is anyone familiar with the films of Andrzeg Zulawski? A theater near me are screening his films in March. I'm gonna go to a couple. They look very interesting. I tried looking for DVD copies of some of his films like Possession or The Third Part of the Night but found they are not available in the US. I think this could be a very interesting Eclipse set. Anyone have any opinion on this directors work?

I personally thought Possession was pretentious overwrought bullshit, but that could be just me. Haven't had the nerve to try anything else.

TCM had it on about a month ago, and I PVRed it. I finally watched it last weekend, and I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. I just found it to be a bit dull and underwhelming, and felt that it was trying to be shocking for the sake of being shocking in some scenes.

I'm excited too for my Anatomy of a Murder shipment, it was made a little over 3 months ago. I'll be getting Hugo next week instead of Repo Man though.

I'm eagerly anticipating for Amazon.ca to add the two Bergmans to their site for pre-ordering.

Same here my World On A Wire and Anatomy Of A Murder is in Shipping Soon status as well and was charged $16.99 for ea. Placed this order since Nov. 16. Glad Amazon honored the price. Cannot wait to watch these. Great review on AOAM.

Has anyone else had a hard time extricating the Godzilla insert and disc from the sleeve? I end up having to jam two fingers into it and yank it out manually.

It is packed rather tightly. Normally I can tilt it to the side, and it slides out, but this one won't budge.

Yes, very much familiar. There is a company that releases his films, so no Criterion release coming. The company is called Mondo Vision. I believe Possession might be coming. But until then I recommend you to check out L’important C’est D’aimer.

I would say you should go to those screenings.

Link to Mondo Vision where you can buy dvds of his films:

I watched Gojira this morning and was able to get it out pretty easy. I just tilted it and gave it a little shake and it slid out enough that I could grab it. Sucks that you are having problem. Mine did get a little dented when Criterion shipped it, so maybe that made it come out easier

The 'good stuff' is obviously still pretty good but the forty-five miinute setup is what keeps me coming back.

Is rewatching Wages of Fear anything like that?
Holy crap that is my absolute favorite part of the movie. Everything up to her arrival at Bates. Not that the rest of the movie is garbage; I love Psycho in general. But, that set-up is one of my favorites to put on as I'm going to sleep. Love the dialogue, music, and the scene at the car dealer. That guy is such a car salesman!!!

I'm not a prime member and my Anatomy of a Murder/World on a Wire order just went into shipping soon which nowadays is pretty good for Super Saver shipping.

Of course, 'soon' could still turn out to be Weds or Thurs.

Yea, I'm a prime member. But usually my orders ship mid Monday. I've never had it shipped on a Sunday. I'm guessing it might be because of the presidents day holiday.

Yes. I'll probably still receive them Tuesday. I can only think of one time where they shipped Sunday and I got them on a Monday (All About Eve, An Affair to Remember).
