It's a film that I first streamed on NetFlix, when they still carried more of the Criterion films. I was also so intrigued by it, that I wound up buying the blu-ray release.

It's a visually pleasing film with a nice soundtrack. The story is quite dysfunctional, but interesting and engaging and it's one of the first 5-10 blu's I bought, when I started buying Criterion blus. The extras are decent and their is a good commentary by Nicholas Roeg and Jenny Agutter to boot.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with it.

There's no way that Criterion would release 4(!) major/well known/classic USA/UK titles on same month! We will be lucky if we get The Gold Rush along with Shallow Grave.Take your seat and watch.

I put it on my list to pick up....Cheers

P.S. - Now I'm interested in Bergman films...I need to stop watching trailers and interviews....and stay away from you lot

They could. I mean, They did release Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, The Last Picture Show (albeit in a box set with Head (not really all that obscure either), Drive, He Said, A Safe Place, and The King of Marvin Gardens (again not too obscure) Night of the Hunter, Modern times, and Antichrist all in November 2010. They have done a month with several major, well-known, classic US/UK titles. Also, I'm just posting what I'd like to see that is somewhat plausible, this isn't any inidcation of what they will actually release.

Many would argue that Fail-Safe isn't really that well-known, because it came out the same time as Dr. Strangelove, which overshadowed the film.

Wishful thinking. I'm a fan of the film, and would love a CC treatment.

It would be interesting. I like it as well--one of the most unconventional film noirs that comes to mind. I remember the first time I watched it I was completely unaware it was going to go in the direction the film ended up going in..

As long as I can get The Gold Rush, I'm good with everything else!

I'd like to get my hands on the novel the film is based off of. I thought Gene Tierney did a fantastic job as Ellen. I want more noir in the Criterion collection.

I don't know who posted the info about DD selling Last Temptation for $21, but thanks for the info. I got my copy yesterday, which is even earlier than Criterion sends releases out, and got through about half. I have the DVD and will say that the move to blu is a very strong upgrade in all areas. The DVD is pretty good to start with, but the BD is a very nice presentation for anyone looking to purchase.

I know its too big a title to license away, but if criterion ever got the rights to Laura I'd be jumping up and down for a week. It would be nice to see anyone give this classic a nice edition with a beautiful transfer and a fair amount of extras.

BFI's been touring a restored print in the UK...I haven't heard anything about a blu release but I would think one would be eminent. Criterion or Kino would be the likely releasing companies on American shores, I'd think.

LINK: BFI Laura restoration in theaters 24 February

Agreed. Criterion should grab some of Columbia's and release a box.

I just saw that post and e-mailed them for a $5 credit. $21 was a great deal, but $15 is even better...
