I'm actually least excited about the Samurai trilogy---but that's only because I know the least about it. Everything other than that and The Gold Rush I'm interested in getting at the moment.

Agreed. It's disappointing. I may be alone in this, but I really want these two titles. I have a few months to decide if they're worth it or if I should just order used OOP copies if prices drop when these hit the street.

Same here (along with Silent Running). If I don't break down earlier I'll almost certainly be adding it/them to my Double Indemnity order.

I don't even think Criterion could do a better job, so no need to wait it out! ;D

Happy with all the Hitchcock lately. Cross off another Chaplin working our way to City Lights. I was hoping for Weekend, but maybe July.

Seems like this is the general opinion on it, I was surprised too. I have not seen these films but they don't look like something deserving the full price tag. I am not saying they are bad or anything, it is just that both are not long films nor they come with tons of extras. The reduced price point would be way more attractive for these ones. Also, I am now in for The Gold Rush too . At first I was not all that convinced but then I looked up that it actually contains both versions plus a ton of extras.

I'll second that the Eureka release is great; if you're region free.

I hope they release Laloux's Gandahar in the near future, too.

As for the the new announcements...

...The 39 Steps and Shallow Grave for me.

I've held off buying the UK BD of The 39 Steps due to the apparent poor transfer, so I'm glad Criterion are releasing this one.

As of right now, I'm in for Samurai Trilogy and The 39 Steps, may pick up Shallow Grave at a later date, as I haven't seen it yet. I liked The Gold Rush, but I'm not sure how often I'd rewatch it.

39 steps for sure. I'll wait till the B&N sale for Shallow Grave and The Gold Rush. I'll probably pick up the other two chaplins then as well. Hopefully. I better start making a list and seeing what I can afford.

Possibly the Samurai trilogy. I like Hitchcock but as someone else said, not a big fan of the earlier works. I will probably skip the Gold Rush as well for now (where is The Kid?!)

The MoC Gandahar is now OOP so that won't be happening unfortunately.

as for the announcements today--of course I'm happy about the Hitchcock and the samurai trilogy has always intrigued me--never seen it--so that's a cool upgrade I guess.
certainly another Chaplin is beyond overdue so no complaints there.
still I'm not really sure what is going on with Criterion lately.
there's just way too many total meh releases imo.
don't think I'll ever understand why Picnic at Hanging Rock hasn't been released yet,
as well as too many other titles to mention.
it is what it is. I'm honestly beginning to not care as much anymore.
there's a million other classic bds coming out, so it's all good.

Can't wait for War Room, then I can see how much it stacks up against Primary Colors.

What were the others? Oh! Gold Rush ... well, I'm fine with Modern Times and City Lights ... my only regret is that I got Criterion's Modern Times.
What in the hell are you talking about?
Does this sort of stuff just come naturally out of people in forums, talk backs and "walls?"

MGM's Blurays for Rebecca, Notorious and Spellbound are some of the worst black and white titles I have in my collection!
And are you implying The 39 Steps is crap?

It's starting to feel like most of these "film fans" just had their voice crack for the first time or are still debating whether to leave their Mother's spare bedroom (complete with floral bedding) at age 35.

Criterion can learn NOTHING from those releases other then where they can go up...

Aside from that what an exciting list of releases.
I know many of you don't care about the Spalding Grey titles, but I get the feeling it because many of you have a sort of "don't know, don't care."
I for one am incredibly excited, he's such a fantastic singular voice in our Performance Art World and Soderberg's Anatomy is truly a one of a kind.

After collecting films from Criterion for years (probably since they first came to DVD), I implore all of you to try something new. One of their titles might not stick with you because you know nothing about it but then find that after a viewing you've been amazingly rewarded.

The first time I saw down and watched Rififi or Antonio Gaudi I felt like I had just experienced Film Nirvana.

Seriously...
Open UP!

Along with a long overdue Bluray edition of Inagaki's amazing Samurai Trilogy; Danny Boyle's fantastic debut; oh and hey, MORE CHAPLIN...
Thank you, June! Thank you Criterion!
