If you can play Region 2 DVDs, then you'll want to purchase BFI's just released DVD of The Devils. I just ordered my copy from Amazon UK a couple of days ago.

Cool...thanks for sharing. I hope Turner Classic Movies in the US will eventually run some of the more obscure Ozus in the near future. They did show A Story Of Floating Weeds in the recent past.

Without giving spoilers...what is the basic story of An Inn in Tokyo?

The story is a faily basic one or should I say typical of Ozu. It's the story of a father with two young boys with no work and no place to stay. Meeting an old friend he then help this friend by working in his restaurant. Enter a young widow with a daugther and a sort of love story start's to happen. At one point one of the children get's sick and the man as to use drastic mesures to find money...I won't give you what happen here or the ending but just by reading this you can see it's an Ozu story. Family, help, love, children....all the elements are there

Yes...sounds like a typical early Ozu story with a twist.

Thanks Pat! I can't wait for BFI to get around to releasing this film...it's on the list of those I haven't yet seen.

I bought the HD remaster off iTunes when they accidentally posted it for 2 or 3 days a while back, then promptly took it down.

I took advantage of both 50% off Barnes and Noble sales last year.

Apparently they do this twice yearly? But anyhow, I hold out to buy my Criterion releases during those times. I ended up applying an additional discount code for even more savings.

Definitely pickin' up Harold and Maude sometime this year

Just watched 3 Women tonight for the first time. Hours later and it's still on my mind. Shelley Duvall's performance was outstanding. Her character was so funny, and very sad. Kind of felt bad afterwards for laughing so much.

They are only Region A, so I think unless OOP they are readily available here in the U.S.

He might be asking which Criterion DVDs have gotten UK BD releases but have not yet gotten Criterion BD releases...ie stuff like Rififi, Tokyo Story, Picnic at Hanging Rock.

I'm too lazy to do it but that might be a pretty useful running list, actually.

In the past, the sales have been in July & November. There are rumors that we're only getting the July sale this year. These rumors may be totally baseless, the internet being what it is and all.

Yeah. I'm all for retailers shipping products once in-hand, but it's ridiculous how early they ship some of their items. I had Letter Never Sent in my hands by the 10th of the month.

I just saw the review for the UK Studio Canal release of La Grande Illusion on blu...and it's stellar. I'm wondering if it's worth buying this version or waiting for Criterion to release it in the US?

As long as you're willing to wait for years since Criterion no longer have the rights...
