In fact, I recorded A Night to Remember with the intention of simply auditioning it.I didn't expect to get drawn into watching the whole thing but after about twenty minutes I grabbed a cigar and settled in.
I'd seen this before, the CC BD is stunning.

I'd say get the UK version of La Haine if you aren't interested in Extras. The ending is absolutely brilliant, but I'd go for the cheaper UK option seeing as they have practically the exact same picture quality.

La Haine is a great movie. I blind bought the Criterion DVD a year or so ago and then found a seller on Amazon.fr with the Studio Canal version which is region free and OOP. I pre-ordered the Criterion Blu day one and will now more than likely sell the French version.

Before the first Apollo launch, the gallows humour circulating at the time was "Either the Saturn V would go up, or Florida would go down."

I've owned Criterion's For All Mankind on Laserdisc, DVD, and now Blu-ray, and it's an evergreen treasure. Great documentary, and the best possible entry point for anyone unfamiliar with NASA's Apollo Moon program.
For All Mankind has been on my wish list for the last two B&N sales, but it just kept missing the cut. I think I'm finally caught up enough that I'll get it this july.

At first, when La Haine was announced, I considered it one of those titles I could eventually get. I have never seen it but every review I have seen praises it and the "Three Reasons" video Criterion uploaded a week ago left me speechless. Does anyone recommend it that much? Or I am just being overly impressed here for a moment ?

Yup. I only have 10 right now (2 more on order) but I only saw 2 of them before I bought them (Ben Button & Rushmore). So far I've LOVED all but 1 of my blind buys (Walkabout, which I couldn't even get through).

That UK release shouldn't have an effect on anything...besides, both releases came out at the same time.

Yojimbo & Sanjuro were blind buys for me & I wasn't disappointed It was pretty much what I invisioned, a quirky samurai movie. I watched Seven Samurai for the first time last year on a crappy DVD transfer & halfway through it I immediately ordered it on bluray as I knew the Criterion release trumps it! Godzilla was another "watch before I buy" yet I only watched about 10 minutes (flicking through the special effects) before deciding. I'd say my blind buys are 70%+ out of the 4 titles I own because *technically* I was watching it in full form for the first time on bluray

Tempted to get 'A Night to Remember' but I've never seen it before, kinda want to see a crummy DVD first as I've never liked any b&w movies that wasn't Japanese Aside from Metropolis but that was easier to relate to

I've also blind bought most of my titles. I've enjoyed all but "Breathless" and "Pierot Le Fou". While I appreciate it, Godard's work just isn't my cup of tea.

The way I see it, you can always trade or sell if you don't dig it. The secondhand market for Criterions is much better than most other Blus. For example, I traded "Breathless" for "World on a Wire" just the other day. Worked out well as I loved "World on a Wire".

La Haine is such a great film, it really deserves better. Shame Criterion couldn't do a new transfer.

I own every Criterion Blu released, and had seen less than 10 of them prior to purchase.

You're apparently not alone.

Since you own them all, which are your favorite films, video transfers, extras, and audio soundtracks?

If it makes you feel any better, you have a bigger television. I only have a 46"er.
