Truly excited for The Game and here's hoping beyond hope for more of Fincher's films to get the Criterion treatment if The Game does well. Would love to see Zodiac and Panic Room get a Criterion treatment.

That's possible, but I doubt it. I, for one, am very happy about The Game, but because I like it.

Now you'll just have to keep listening to the calls for the rest of the Wes Andersons, for Badlands and the occasional grousing about Y Tu Mama Tambien and Following.

Should make people stop complaining about it, guess Zodiac will follow . Also, I know most of you hate to discuss it but the Carne(s) artwork is some of the most beautiful in quite some time. Can't really complain, I am more than happy with this month, especially because that surprise title really tops with a cherry an already magnificent release (Children).
Les Visiteurs du soir actually interests me the most, given the time period it's set in.

I hope Criterion releases After the Fox (i know im dreaming but its a fun film) and The Virgin Spring. If I figure correctly, we'll get a Bergman in November, because we got some in May, and that's how it played out last year.

What I meant isn't really that Zodiac will become a reality but now that we have The Game, most people are going to start losing it to Zodiac instead . I for one think these titles will make lots of people happy but I just can't get the incredibly large following (Not pun intended ) some of them get. The films may be good but that constant and unstoppable requesting gets tiring after some time. We all have our "wishes", though. Maybe, people is already tired of hearing me requesting films like Los Olvidados and The Cranes are Flying .

I don't know if this just my (un)natural aversion to change but man I don't like the looks of that.

I'm not at all crazy about digipacks but that sets my teeth on edge.

No, other than the fact that it's, apparently, difficult to come by these days people just want to see the "C" logo on the title. These same people tend to think that the magical "C" somehow makes films better.

Long story short, the slightly superior (don't ask, it's one of those religious war things) two-disc US release has been OOP for a while now.

It looks like the inside of my Sherlock Holmes 2 steel book actually.

It would have been nice if they could have gone with the same hinged swinging scenario that BFI and MoC use for their dual disc releases. This configuration forces you to pull out both discs if you need to access one after the other.

Well, in some cases, the wacky C does make some films better. I won't say the title, but my favourite release was greatly improved by the Wacky C, as Rhino couldn't even be arsed to put it in the proper aspect ratio. A lot of the films I want, I'd be happy if anyone released them, but criterion seems more likely to get them, although I'm still not holding my breath.

WOAH!!
now this is the type of announcement day I like seeing.
2 great upgrades and some fantastic additions.
and I absolutely love the artwork for Children of Paradise.
(I also just sold my dvd like 2 weeks ago on amazon, so talk about being clairvoyant as to how soon it would be announced--that's called rockin' it out)
very exciting end of the week surprises from Criterion.
now if only we can get Brazil and Wild Strawberries next month.........

Yes, but it always sucks, too, when one of those little plastic hinge holders breaks inside the case. I guess replacement cases with swinging holders are more commonly found these days, though, right? I haven't even bothered to see who the manufacturer is for the BFI & MOC cases.

Yes, well I completely understand that point when a film hasn't been given its respected treatment. However, when a "big-budget" Hollywood film such as Zodiac already has an exhaustive 2-disc blu-ray release, then I can't seeing there being any point in it.

The notorious 'should I blind buy' question is coming in 3..2..1:

Is Umberto D. a safe bet? I've been intrigued with it for a few months, just haven't gotten around to see it. I've only seen The Bicycle Thieves from de Sica and really enjoyed that. Incredible cinematography and pretty emotional stuff. I'm just trying to get a feel for it.. Much appreciative.

Everything for me!
The Game:
Umberto D: Masterpiece
Children of Paradise: masterpiece, I can't even imagine finally seeing it in HD
Les Visiteurs du soil: haven't seen it but it's Carne
Eating Raoul: haven't seen it but sounds interesting could we talk about this title?

I'm mad at myself. I recently saw Umberto D and Children of Paradise acouple weeks ago in SD...Anyway, the wait will be excruciating. Very Very excited!
