I finally finished pinnacle 60s Godard, here we go:
2 or 3 Things I Know About Her This was definitely quite the change compared to Godard's other work. It still has characters addressing the camera, knowing they are in a film, but the way they go about their business makes it different. It might be all the philosophical talk, where the characters were actually trying to find meaning in everything, that made it interesting. What was peculiar was Godard narrating in a whisper; it gave the film a Malick tone, especially with the camera focusing on people going about their business. A much more accessible Godard film, especially if you are into Malick's films. La Chinoise I had never heard much about this film till I watched it, and I was kinda glad because it sure was a surprise. It feels similar to 2 or 3 in the sense that the characters know they are in a film, and it's small sketches, but the way they address the camera and answer questions I'm assuming are given by Godard make it much more realistic. In a way it felt much more like a documentary. It was definitely an interesting watch and very enjoyable. I'm not entirely sure what Godard was trying to say though, whether he was for Communism, or if he was saying youth are disoriented and try and seem more important they truly are. Week End The final film from Godard's pinnacle 60s period, and what a film. It's dark, it's philosophical, it rambles, it toys around with usual conventions, it's everything that is Godard up to this point of time. Everything in this film was amazing and tops what seemed like he tried to do in Pierrot le fou, but at the same time it does something different. In Pierrot, it seemed like Godard was still making a comment on his relationship with Karina, and while it still is a fantastic film, it Week End he seems to truly be saying something entirely on it's own about revolutionists, bourgeois society, etc. The film even has a very polished style that seems different from everything else he was doing, and it looked very beautiful. As well, the comedy in this was probably some of the best he had ever done to this point. And to top it all off, that traffic jam in the beginning was probably one of my favorite scenes in all of cinematic history; there's something about it that is hilarious, engaging, dark, infuriating, every emotion you can think of. I'm really curious to see where Godard goes from this point forward, especially since most people say his work beyond the 60s is even better. Can't wait to continue with Sympathy for the Devil and The Joy of Learning ![]() |

My list would actually be very similar--I agree with this (Though I'd have Vivre being at the top and 2 or 3 things being the 2nd). Only I haven't seen Week End yet, I really need to eventually.

I had to laugh a little after the site crash, because while everyone else updating their collections with what was lost, my total was exactly the same. Over seven weeks without a purchase is by far a new record for me (though I had my wedding and honeymoon in that span, so lets not give me too much credit.) |

Just finished Solaris for the first time and I LOVED it
![]() Also, and this is really as a side-note. The menu is by far the best one I have seen from Criterion. In a word: Beautiful. Last edited by Darkcritic; 06-19-2012 at 07:58 PM. |

![]() I'm bad with updating what films I watch upon occasion. SOmetime I forget to say I've watched something and I look like those buffoons who just collect films without watching them. ![]() I'm running out of space on my criterion shelf, I dOnt know if this is a good or bad thing. At least I don't have many more left to buy on my backlOg, just about 10 or sO after the sale. ![]() |

![]() The funny thing is in the last little while I have gotten more DVD added to my collection than Blu-ray. I just keep finding rare gems, very cheap that will probably never make it to Blu-ray. |
